Warner Bros. releases App Editions of The Dark Knight and Inception

Fresh off Apple’s announcement of in-app subscriptions yesterday, Warner Bros. has introduced an entirely new way for iDevice users to purchase movies on their iDevices. With the release of “App Editions” for the feature films The Dark Knight and Inception, users can now download or stream these flicks (via an IAP) from within the free universal apps.

App Editions provide a fully-loaded, connected viewing experience that gives consumers the first five minutes of a feature film and a portion of bonus content that can include games, trivia, soundtracks and soundboards. The entire feature film can be unlocked via an in-app purchase, which enables downloading and unlimited streaming, as well as access to the entire array of bonus content available within the App.

The cost of the movies are the same as on iTunes ($9.99 for Dark Knight and $11.99 for Inception), but you do get the added bonus of the extra content and 3G streaming. And aside from customised menus in 16 languages, the movies will be accompanied by subtitles in 34 different languages. Warner is planning on releasing an entire line up of App Editions in 2011, including new releases and catalog films. More info and demo video can be found below.
