Freebie of the Day: Squids Wild West

Squids, a well crafted turn-based strategy game that first hit iOS back in late 2011, remains one of my favorites in the genre. Now, its equally fun sequel Squids Wild West (TMA review), has gone completely free on the App Store (was $1.99).

SQUIDS Wild West has a unique mix of action strategy and RPG: build your team of heroes for challenging turn-based battles against corrupted crabs and shrimp! This sequel is even better than the original, with many surprises in store: devious new enemies, four new playable characters, and nearly twice as many levels. You can even ride seahorses into battle!

Squids Wild West in Review – The Good, The Bad, or the Ugly?

Everyone’s favourite squids have ridden their way back into our palms in The Game Bakers latest entry into the cult classic Squids franchise. Squids Wild West continues the story of the first game (TMA Review) and pulls the setting into an adorable underwater Western world. The Game Bakers have stuck to what they know, which in this case is a very good thing. While little has changed from Squids, subtle improvements have been made to the game’s fluidity, along with minor introductions such as mounted seahorses for your squid-slinging pleasure.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [June 25 – July 1]

This week felt like the proverbial Christmas in July when it came to new games for iOS devices.  In addition to the fine list I’ve compiled below, gamers were treated to a quirky tower defense game called Vampire Season.  You are Dracula’s right hand man, and you must use a crazy assortment of ghouls and what-not to keep those pesky humans from finding Dracula’s coffin.  If you’re more into RPGs, Squids Wild West might float your boat.  This sequel to last year’s acclaimed aquatic tactics game (TMA Review) takes a whole new look at the concept of cowboys.  For those that want something completely different in tone there’s Frisbee Forever 2, the game that lets you show off your virtual disc throwing skillz.  It’s free and looks to be sporting some pretty sharp graphics for a game about tossing a plastic object through the air.
