Since its grand opening, the AppStore has seen quite a number of Action/jRPG titles. Unfortunately, only a few are worth mentioning. Apart from Zenonia and more recently, Hybrid, only one other highly acclaimed title roamed App Store: the successful Chronicles of Inotia. So it’s no wonder Com2uS conjured up a sequel just in time for Christmas.
The face of the best yet…
I love RPG’s and fantasy adventure games. My first love was the simple, but action-riddled 8-bit Zelda. Later, my love for digital fantasy ( … ) grew to encompass games that more accurately reflected role playing: Ultima, Might and Magic and The Elder Scrolls. After completing several large games, I turned to the Super Nintendo (SNES) and some classic Japanese-style RPG’s: Final Fantasy, Gaia, Secret of Mana and Dragon Quest.
Which is best? Well, they all are good, but you have to be right for the game. For the light-hearted adventurer, we have a sub-genre headed up by Zenonia and for the seemy-action slayer, Raven Sword, Aralon, and Dungeon Hunter. For the more callous adventurer role-player, there is The Quest.
Gentle reader, let me impress upon you illumination I have discovered: Redshift’s The Quest is the RPG we have been waiting for in the App Store. In fact, in my long searches I have found it to be the best RPG I have yet played on any portable gaming system. My friends, it should be considered the benchmark for RPG makers to follow: classic and deep; methodical and detailed; it is a true role-playing experience among portable RPG’s that are nothing but shallow hack and slash weapon-building adventures.
