App Store Turns 1 … Reveals Favorite Apps

appstore1yrOur favorite virtual candy store, aka the App Store, will turn 1 come July 11, 2009. Who would’ve thought that in such a short time span, over 50,000 apps would make their way onto the iDevice? While plenty of these are include useless fart, puke and other silly applications, we have come to bear witness to some excellent games that rival or even surpass those on the DS and PSP. To celebrate this 1 yr anniversary, Apple has released their 30 favorite Game and Non-game apps.

Needless to say, choosing 60 from the tens of thousands of quality apps to highlight the App Store’s birthday is no easy task. Personally, I think the list is pretty good, and will surely vary for each individual you ask. So what’s missing for you? For the complete Birthday Bash list, click here.

App Price Drop – Jan 25th, 2009

Without a doubt, the biggest name on this list is Rolando, which saw a price drop from 9.99 to 5.99 earlier this week. Lots of other nice sales happening, including my some of my favs in OldBooth, Hot Popcorn and Up There. Paypal users should also take a look at PayShield, now only $0.99. ngmoco’s Rolando has Arrived – Quick Impressions

Christmas has arrived early for iPhone gamers. Two of the most talked about and eagerly awaited games for the iPhone are now both available. Yesterday, it was SimCity that made the rounds. Today, we have Rolando hitting the App Store and not a moment too soon. Having spent sometime testing it out, I can say that it is indeed a wonderfully executed title. It has responsive and easy to use controls, well designed levels that offer plenty of engaging obstacles, eye candy visuals, a catchy sound track and did I mention fun? Yes, very fun! You will begin to realize the creativity and high level of production that went into Roland even after just several minutes into the game. The early App Store reviews have been very positive and Rolando certainly deserves no less.
