RedSn0w, the popular jailbreaking tool has been updated to version 0.9.10b4 and now includes the long awaited fix for iBooks not being able to run on jailbroken iOS 5.0.1 devices.
The b4 version of redsn0w incorporates the 5.0.1 fix for iBooks, and also for sporadic problems with launchctl. Thanks to @xvolks for merging the iBooks (sandbox) fix from @comex’s github into the overall corona untether from @pod2g! As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose).
If you’ve previously jailbroken your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch using redsn0w, all you need to do is re-jailbreak it using 0.9.10b4, but do remember to uncheck the “Install Cydia” option beforehand. Conversely, you can run the latest version of the Corona package (1.0.4) on Cydia in order to use iBooks once again.

Several weeks ago, we saw chronic dev team member pod2g post a video of his untethered jailbreak on an iPod Touch running iOS 5. Well, for those of you eagerly anticipating its public release, the wait is finally over. The untethered exploit has just been incorporated into redsnow 0.9.10 and PwnageTool and works on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. One requirement is that they must be updated to iOS 5.0.1 beforehand. As for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners, they’ll have to wait some more as A5 devices haven’t been completely hacked yet. Fear not though, as pod2g has said that he’ll be looking at extending this untethered jailbreak to the latest iDevices in the near future. A quick rundown of how to install it right after the break.
It took me some time to finally decide to jailbreak my iPod Touch and I am very satisfied with the result. Now, it is in my best interest (not really) to show you how I did it. If you are a member of the group of stubborn folks who refuses to place their “precious” in the hands of some software with names like “redsn0w”, “quickpwn”, or “ultrasn0w”, don’t let it deter you anymore, hesitant one! If I can do it, so can you!
redsn0w beta jailbreak for the iPod Touch 2G is now available for those who don’t mind a bit of typing. One step closer to point and click GUI hacking, the iPhone Dev Team are making leaps and bounds progress on this platform that has been comparatively sidelined from the jailbreak scene. With promise of future GUI jailbreaks just down the track, the Dev Team race on.
