Time Crisis 2nd Strike in Review – Shoot, Reload, Repeat

I’m not a big fan of first person shooters, but I do like the occasional action game, so options like the Time Crisis series fit the bill nicely. The iDevice is the perfect portable platform for such games as well, since the touch screen does a decent job of simulating the light gun control. FPS purists will most likely cringe at this game since they don’t get the control they think they need, but for people like me who need a bit more structured chaos, TIME CRISIS 2ND STRIKE works perfectly.

Touch’n Go: Slice it! – Geometric challenge!

I can see why my wife was completely addicted to this puzzler. With its graffiti graphics and cute music, Slice It! may look like a quick little game, but it ain’t. It’s a cleverly disguised geometric puzzler that can tickle your brain for hours. Your mission? Divide shapes into equal parts in order to pass to the next level. Currently, there are 40 levels with more promised from Com2uS in the near future.

We’ve seen almost everything, from downright clones such as Space Dock (TMA Review) to innovative titles like Boom Brigade. Well, Chillingo might have hit paydirt again with the release of Zombie Escape – an original (and zombie-filled) look on the genre.

Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box in review – When you mess with the undead…

As hidden object games are becoming more popular on the iPhone, it’s nice to see variants coming out that are more than just a combination of searching for objects and playing mini-games. In the case of Vampire Saga, it really feels more like an adventure game that just happens to use hidden object scenes in order for you to find some of the key objects for solving puzzles in the game.  Additionally, it actually has a gripping story.  Combined with excellent visuals and stirring music, Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box is probably one of the best hidden object games to come along in a while.

Azada in Review – A magical puzzle-solving adventure

Big Fish Games is one of the most prolific mobile publishers, best known for its range of excellent hidden object (HO) titles. Keeping this in mind it’s not much of a surprise that Azada has quite a bit of hiddenness in it. But this time, Big Fish Games decided to make things more interesting and throw in a LOT of other puzzles, making hidden objects only a part of the gameplay, rather than the backbone.

AirAttack in Review – Step Aside JetBlue

I love shmups (shoot ‘em ups), though I’m not keen on that nickname. There have actually been some pretty sharp shooters on the iPhone, but I still hadn’t found that one yet that I could constantly refer back to, much like I used to do with Claygun when writing about Pocket PC shmups. The time has finally arrived, however, for a game to take that place of honor, and that game is AirAttack. No game is perfect, but this is certainly the most well rounded, enjoyable shmup experience I’ve had on my iPod Touch to date.

Crimson Gem Saga in Review – Final Fantasy is weeping in the corner

Despite the prominence of the RPG genre on the App Store, an inquisitive mind quickly discovers that about 70% are Action/RPGs ported from other mobile devices, with a few originally developed for the platform. The other 30% are split between the classic cRPGs like Undercroft (TMA Review), the Diablo-clones with Dungeon Hunter (TMA Review) in the lead and, very rarely, classic console jRPGs like the famous FINAL FANTASY series. It seems the latter has just got a massive upgrade with the release of Crimson Gem Saga – a port of a highly acclaimed PSP title.
