While not likely to be implemented in the near future, Samsung‘s MEMS (Micro Electromechanical System) shutter is a technology to look out for in the world of mobile phones. Shutters allow light to the sensor for a determined amount of time and more quickly prepare the sensor for another shot by physically blocking light from the sensor as the image is transferred to memory. No matter the advantage to image quality, mechanical weight and voltage requirements have kept their application in the mobile phone arena impractical.
Despite enormous hype surrounding the App Store and enthusiasm from developers and customers alike, Apple may not yet be making returns from the App Store that they had hoped. Visiting a tool from O’Reilly, LightSpeed Venture Partners’ Jeremy Liew proposes that Apple may have made revenue of only 20-45 million dollars US.Â
In 2008, Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, otherwise known as ‘Steve Notes’ sold out for the first time since 1996. You won’t be able to get in this year either if you have not already bought your ticket and signed the non-disclosure agreement stating that you will not let any secrets fly that are not loosed already from somewhere in China. Yep, 2009’s WWDC is as good as gone but how will it fare compared to its earlier incarnations?
Prior to OS 2.0 and the App Store’s inauguration, optimists crowded the iPhone scene with conjecture that the new software would bring not only the iPhone but its users truly into a deserved limelight. Well, nearly a year later, there are tens of thousands of apps and millions of happy iPhone and iPod Touch users; the iPhone platform is hotter and the iPod Touch funner than ever.
These days, Apple are demanding a lot from their users. Even back in their Golden Years, they demanded that mac users learn how to use a mouse, which quickly evolved into easy-to-use computering and later, forced adoption of the fast, well volted firewire. Recently, we have had to say goodbye to firewire, usable usb ports, removeable batteries and lastly, impunity to create weapons from our DRM-free songs in the iTunes Store.
Yep, Engadget spake and so it will happen. Apple will show and ‘advanced preview’ of the new 3.0 operating software, so we should probably not get our hopes up for a brand new OS by the end of March. However, those who are good at praying should join me in spiritually ushering in this new OS ahead of schedule.
Engadget will get a sneak peak at the new SDK and of the new OS. Make sure your heads are not in the mud that day as Apple Faithful the world over will have new reason to cry from both joy and disappointment.
So, what features are you hoping for in this new release?
