iPhone 101: Undo/Redo Typing on OS 3.0

tipsntricks_undo3

While many of the more experienced iPhone/iPod Touch users out there already know this handy little tip, I have recently come across quite a few iDevice owners who have yet to discover some of the not so obvious functions of the 3.0 firmware.  It used to be that whenever you had to delete some text, you would have to tap on the backspace key until the necessary edits have been made. Now, with OS 3.0, all this can be achieved via a simple shake of the iPhone or Touch.

QuadCamera is out for 3.0!

News-Photography-QuadCamera-OS30-Revival-Icon.jpg

Last week, I noted that SepiaCamera had obtained a well-deserved price-upgrade: it is now free! The same developer, Takayuki Fukatsu, has had recent trouble with Apple’s approval process as his upgraded QuadCamera, a popular photographer’s tool was rejected for use with OS 3.0. Fortunately, that restriction has been lifted and the app can now be downloaded for 99 cents.

Hottest Girls Porn – An OS 3.0′s first goes out with a bang

quicklook-entertainment-hottestgirlsguys04quicklook-entertainment-hottestgirlsguys

In the past we have been up in arms about Apple’s selective app approval process, but this time, I think Apple have made a smart fiscal move in giving the thumbs up to Hottest Girls. Allen Leung’s app appeared, rose the ladder to the #2 spot and then in a puff of spray-on body-oil, limply disappeared. Rife with downloadable content, naked women and fetish genre’s, it was is a piece of App Store history as much as iBoobs was in its short life. Whether Hottest Girls’ disappearance was as Allen says, because of server overload or because Apple pulled the plug, we likely will not know till it is back up again or, there is an update. If Apple’s doing, it was a silly mistake: Hottest Girls has real potential as a money-making apparatus.

Firmware 3.0 Impressions and Overview

June 17, 2009, Apple birthed a new iPhone firmware which caused possibly one of the biggest server hiccups to date. If you own an iPhone, then you probably encountered the dreaded message,  “iPhone activation servers are temporarily unavailable”. I nearly popped a blood vessel in my eye when I read that error message. Being the impatient iPod fanboy that I am, I stood in front of my Mac for the next 2 hours clicking the update button to no avail. After what seemed like years (2 hours and 18 minutes to be exact), I was finally prompted by the wondrous message “preparing iPhone for update”. My pleas had been answered.

Updated: “Holy crap, this thing is fast” – Dev Black Pixel’s 3GS Benchmarks

rumour-iphone-3gs-powervrsgxWhile not a graceful runner, Donnovan Bailey was fast – especially as he gassed over the ‘fastest man on the earth’, Michael Johnson in a special fit-for-the-faker 150m race about 10 years ago. I saw it at the SkyDome and it deeply touched me, but what a crock! Well, the 3GS is no faker: it is a powerful machine that Black Pixel‘s ejaculation, “Holy crap, this thing is fast” certainly supports.

Does OS 3.0 improve the sound of the iDevice?

Thank you Engadget

Among many hidden and official features of the new OS, there is speculation, hype and perhaps even a bit of placebo stirring among the enthusiastic audiophile crowd; apparently, the new OS has improved the sound of both the iPhone and the iPod Touch. I am a keen member of headfi, a great headphone-devoted forum where you can geek out with enthusiasts, trade, sell, barter, discuss and make noise about your favourite phones, amps and cables. Since 2004, I have been perusing heafi and since 2006, verbosely posting. In my short time, I have seen the coming and going of many hype threads and and others that are true treasues. As a portable audiophile, I am more than interested in claims that OS 3.0 improves iDevice sound quality.

Trials of the Second Coming of the Jesus Phone – OS 3.0 Cracked and Public

news-ultrasnowdemo

No reason to be long-winded with this one: my words will go one ear and out t’ other. The iPhone Dev Team have just released their new OS 3.0 hack-able software. However, it is recommended to know what service you need before delving into the convolutions of an unlock. Read the information after the jump very carefully and follow the team’s website before you make any rash decision as the unlock will currently render your non-kosher carrier service useless.

App Store Split Personality – OS 2 Vs 3

Changes in the App Store as of OS 3.0
All apps released from 17 June will only be compatible with iPhone OS 3.0. Apps released prior to that date will also support OS 2, but must ensure compatibility with the new firmware. It makes good business sense for Apple to demand this of devs. With the arbitrary date of 17 June set, iPod touch users who want to download new paid and free apps, must first fork over 10$ – even if the app has no features that take advantage of OS 3.0.

OS 3.0 – A Glimpse Through Apple’s Recent History (or why we should not have to pay for iPhone updates)

news-os30-03Just hours ago, iPhone OS 3.0 was unleashed onto the App Store with prices starting at USD 9.99$. Packed with many great ‘new’ features, the software is bound to stay a top download until current Touch and iPhone users have finished the update cycle or upgraded to newer hardware. Spotlight, cut/copy/paste, landscape editing, bluetooth, MMS, voice memo, iTunes account managing/redeeming, etc. – all are great reasons to update to a new point release, however, Apple have only really taken the blinders from the platform rather than added anything to our beloved devices.
