EA Mobile has once again dropped prices of their most popular iPhone and iPad titles to $0.99, and this one is likely their biggest of the year. Nearly all their iOS games are on sale for a dollar, and for the very first time, FIFA SOCCER 13 and Need for Speed Most Wanted can be had for a buck. If you have yet to pick up some of their more recent offerings or are a new iDevice owner, this holiday season would be a great time to pick up some great games on the cheap for yourself or someone else via iOS 6′s new gifting feature. Get Siri to show directions via Google Maps app

google-maps-and-siri

By now, you’ve likely already downloaded the recently released (and excellent) Google Maps app on your iPhone and made it your primary navigation tool. Unfortunately though, there’s no way to make it your default maps app without jailbreaking. But what if there was a way to make it so that Siri will give directions to a location using Google Maps? JailbreakNation discovered that by adding “via transit” to the end of your Siri command, a go-between “Routing Apps” page will appear and allow you to select desired navigation apps. For example, you can say “Give me directions to [destination] via transit“, or “Take me to the closest [POI] via transit“. Voilà. You can then select Google Maps and choose from one of the suggested routes. It’s not a perfect integration, but at least it’s there if you’d like to use both Siri and Gmaps. Check out the demo video below.

Gifting Apps returns to iOS 6

Just in time for the holidays, you can now start gifting apps right from your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. This feature was available in iOS 5, but for one reason or another, Apple elected to leave it out when iOS 6 first launched. Now that it’s back, simply head to an app page in the App Store app, tap on the “action” icon located at the top right corner and select “Gift”. From there, enter the email of the person you’re sending the app to, leave an optional message (200 characters) and choose when you want the gift sent (today or a specific date up to 90 days in advance). This is especially handy when scheduling app gifting for someone’s birthday or other special occasions.

Rumour Mill: iPad mini 2 will feature high resolution display

According to Digitimes’ sources, the iPad mini 2′s display will get a boost in resolution, which isn’t all that surprising considering how most, if not all, consider the current mini’s 1024×768 display to be its weakest link.

Apple’s next-generation iPad mini will focus mostly on enhancing the device’s display resolution, according to Taiwan-based backlighting industry sources.

The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple’s Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series.
