App Update: NAVIGON 2.0 drops MobileNavigator name for US apps, now $20 off

NAVIGON, formally known as MobileNavigator in the US (TMA Review), has just been updated to 2.0 and showcases some brand new features. Already considered by many as the top navigation app for the iPhone/iPad (myself included), NAVIGON 2.0 now boasts a “fully refined and even easier to use UI” and more importantly, the ability to download only the maps and regions that you actually need (US and North America versions). So instead of having to download/install a 1.8 GB app right off the bat, they weigh in at just 45 mb.

Better yet, the apps are now $20 off, so NAVIGON NA is on sale for $39.99, and the USA and Canada apps are only $29.99. Check out the press release and video demo for more info after the break.

NAVIGON’s MobileNavigator, arguably one of the best GPS apps available for the iPhone, is now celebrating it’s 1 year App Store anniversary (as well as 1 million users) by holding a 50% fire sale. We reviewed MobileNavigator North America a while back and found it a great choice for its many features, POIs, Live traffic updates (in-app purchase) and general ease-of-use. The sale includes all their apps that range from an entire region to specific cities. Here are some with maps that cover a more expansive zone:

Compared to the more traditional GPS devices that start at $100, snagging a NAVIGON app for a fraction of the price is a tremendous deal. If you want to browse all the apps on sale, take a look on iTunes here. Don’t procrastinate though if you want one; according to their Website, the 50% off is only good until August 15th.

Navigon, a well-known navigation company from Hamburg have augmented North American iPods with the App Store’s first professional GPS system. The app promises to turn your iPhone into a ‘first-rate navigation system’ – a promise that we have heard before. This time however, Navigon’s professional experience and overall polish are swaying the majority of App Store users. There are a few problems, but as a first release on this side of the Atlantic, a little culture shock is to be expected. MobileNavigator is a whopping 1,29 GB, so it may be time to pair down your music library, saying adieu to Michael Jackson once and for all.
