Soul Calibre coming to iPhone and iPad on Jan 19th

Soul Calibre, the iconic weapon-based fighter that first released for the arcades and Sega Dreamcast in the late 90′s, will be making its way to iOS on Jan 19th. The port will feature all 19 of the original fighters, and will include arcade battle, time attack, survival, practice and museum modes. While the launch price is currently unknown, Soul Calibre will be a universal app and require an iPhone 4/4S, iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4G to run the visually impressive game. And coinciding with Namco Bandai’s iOS release, Soul Calibre 5 is set to make its Xbox 360 and PS3 debut next month, on Feb 3rd. Check out the official trailer and more screenshots after the break.

Puzzle Quest 2 in Review – Match 3 RPG Bliss

I didn’t think the match 3 mash-up could get any better than the original Puzzle Quest.  It figures that it would take the sequel of the game that pioneered the concept to prove me wrong.  Puzzle Quest 2 raises the bar that its predecessor set with a new isometric perspective that actually lets you wander around town, side quests complete with mini-games, and a tournament mode that allows you to fight with the monsters!  I’m not sure what Puzzle Quest 3 will bring (or if there will even be one), but if it’s even half the upgrade this one has been we’ll be in for another treat. Splatterhouse in Review – A 2×4 Head Busting Arcade Classic

Arcade Classic brought to iDevice

I remember walking into my local arcade and laying eyes on SPLATTERHOUSE for the first time. The visual joy of a hockey mask wearing protagonist who strolls through a monster house full of nasty creatures was a sight to behold; and when he proceeds to bash them in with a 2×4 that gives off this amazing “pop” sound as it connects, well, that just had me hooked. After sinking my entire $5 allowance into the machine, I ran over and told my friends I had just played the greatest Friday the 13th game ever!

Time Crisis 2nd Strike in Review – Shoot, Reload, Repeat

I’m not a big fan of first person shooters, but I do like the occasional action game, so options like the Time Crisis series fit the bill nicely. The iDevice is the perfect portable platform for such games as well, since the touch screen does a decent job of simulating the light gun control. FPS purists will most likely cringe at this game since they don’t get the control they think they need, but for people like me who need a bit more structured chaos, TIME CRISIS 2ND STRIKE works perfectly.

PAC-Match Party set to take a chomp from App Store

Fresh off the heels of celebrating PAC-MAN’s 30th anniversary, Namco has sent us word that PAC-Match Party, a new PAC-MAN themed match-3 puzzle, will be launched for the iPhone and iPod Touch (iPad version to follow) in the very near future. Touted as a Match 3 with a retro twist, gamers will be treated to addictive gameplay, whacky combos and 30 levels of pure PAC-MAN goodness. A flash based version of the game was recently launched and it should give you a good idea on what to expect from the iDevice version. I’ve tried out the flash game myself and it is indeed very fun. And for those of you living in the continental US, Namco is also giving away a PAC-MAN-themed smart car!

If you’re a puzzle/match 3 lover, you’ll surely love what PAC-Match Party has to offer. More screenshots and video trailer after the break.

Lt. Fly Rise Of The Arachnids in Review – Little Miss Muffet ain’t seen nothing…

One thing that’s becoming increasingly popular in the realm of match 3 games is to have a split screen, where one half of the screen is matching and the other half is something happening as a result of the matching. Sometimes the non-matching side is interactive, sometimes it’s not. Either way it adds a fresh spin to a fun but increasingly oversaturated genre. One of the latest efforts to rise to the occasion is Lt. Fly Rise of the Arachnids, and it’s quite an effort indeed. The first level starts off a bit slow, but when it takes off (level 2) it really takes off, and joyous mayhem ensues. Match 3 fans looking for something a little different won’t be disappointed.

Pool Pro Online 3 In Review – don’t get caught behind the eight ball!

Remember when Yahoo started offering online multiplayer pool? It was an explosion of early social networking, mixed with great online gaming. Unfortunately, as most of you know it eventually spiraled into the pervert cave that it is now. Luckily with the creation of the iPhone/iPod Touch, that aspect of social gaming is back, minus the creepy attempts to “cyber”. You may be wondering why I’m referencing such a thing. Well, recently I was handed a copy of Namco’s Pool Pro Online 3. A single & multi player pool game with its own built in chat system. Feel free to discuss this review of Pool Pro Online 3 in our forums.
