Surely, there are plenty of ‘premium’ App Store titles where gamers are hoping and praying to see price drops for; Rolando 2, Real Racing and Sim 3 are some prime examples of  games priced at the current ceiling of $9.99. While we won’t know for sure when (if ever) these titles go on sale, two of the biggest video game franchises available for the iDevice – Metal Gear Solid Touch ($7.99) and Doom Resurrection ($9.99) – are now available for only $2.99 a pop. While both of these games offer a different gameplay experience compared to their console/PC counterparts (MGST being more of a sniper/shooting game and Doom Resurrection an “on-rail” shooter), they are both still loads of fun and will keep you entertained while on the go. If you have six bucks to burn before the weekend officially begins and are craving for some action packed shooters, you definitely don’t want to miss out on these deals. Grab ‘em while its hot!

Update: id Software’s other FPS Wolfenstein 3D Classic is now on sale as well at only $0.99!!

Metal Gear Solid Touch in Review – A Critical Look

I am bracing myself for a torrent of scathing comments. So let me start off by saying that I love the Metal Gear series. I’ve played it for the NES, PSP, PS2, and PS3. I believe it to be one of the most iconic franchises. I played through all of Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4) and believe it to be a ground breaking game in both its cinematic value and gameplay. Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid Touch (MGST) fails to reach that iconic status. It fails to live up to the hype of its namesake.

This being said, how does the App fare by itself? Mixed at best.

Behold: Metal Gear Solid Touch sneaks into App Store

msgtouch_releaseThe good news indeed keeps on coming. First, the much hyped announcement of the iPhone OS 3.0 that will include features like copy & paste (Alleluia!), push notification, landscape keyboard and p2p networking. If this didn’t get your juices flowing, then maybe Konami’s release of the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid Touch will. [Check out our review here]

“Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots,” the latest chapter in the record-setting 26 .5 million-seller game series “Metal Gear” is being reborn on the iPhone/iPod touch! With its intuitive multi-touch interface, METAL GEAR SOLID TOUCH is a game that anyone can easily pick-up and enjoy.

Based on the profound storyline of “MGS4″, Metal Gear Solid Touch features the unique foes of MGS4, including the beautiful and deadly members of the dreaded “B&B” corps. Whether you are an MGS4 fan or a new-comer to the Metal Gear series, ”Metal Gear Solid Touch” is a rhythmic touch shooting game that everyone can enjoy.

Needless to say, MGS Touch has ranked right at the top of our list of games to to keep an eye on. If you’re a diehard fan of the series, I’m sure you’ll have no problem dropping $7.99 for a chance to get your Metal Gear fix on your iDevice. More casual fans though may bulk at the price tag and the fact that this exclusive iPhone reincarnation is ‘only’ a shooter/sniper game at heart (and not the full blown MGS we’ve come to love). Regardless, TouchMyApps will be getting our groove on with Solid Snake himself and  have a full on review in the coming days. [Metal Gear Solid Touch, $7.99]

More Metal Gear Solid Touch details revealed

metalgeartouch03 Metal Gear Solid is easily my favorite video game series of all time. What’s not to like? MGS has always been loaded with gripping cinematic story lines, stealthy gameplay, a variety of combat methods (sniping!) and some of the best visuals for every console its been on. While Metal Gear Touch has been made specifically for the iPhone/iPod Touch, it won’t be a full-fledged MGS game we’re accustomed to. Konami has recently debuted a new website that reveals more info regarding its gameplay:

Wage battle using intuitive touch-based shooting controls. Solid Snake’s final battle recreated on the battlefield of your 3.5-inch widescreen display!…Control the action with your fingers using the “Multi-touch interface” of the iPhone/iPod Touch. Trace your fingers on teh screen to take aim, and shooting by tapping. Pinch out or Pinch in to zoom-in/out on targets and snipe them from a distance.

Judging from what’s been revealed on the website, it looks like Konami has another “solid” Metal Gear game on their hands. Screenshots and video after the jump.
