Lonely Planet, one of the largest Travel Guide Publishers on the App Store, has dropped 13 of their North American app guides to free for stranded travellers caught in the massive snow storm that’s hit parts of the US and Canada over the past 2 days.

Whether you’re in fact “stranded” or not, this is a great opportunity to grab some solid travel guides for free (previously priced at $5.99). You just never know when you’ll be visiting those cities in the future. The offer is good until 9pm EST on Friday, February 4th. Here’s the complete list:

By now, you’ve likely heard of the massive travel disruptions caused by the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull (apparently pronounced “ay-yah-FYAH’-plah-yer-kuh-duhl“) in Iceland. Seeing how countless travelers have been stranded across European cities, one of the leading travel guide publishers have decided help iDevice users make the best of the situation. Dubbed “Volcano Relief Sale”, Lonely Planet have offered 13 of their popular City Guide apps as free downloads until April 22nd (until 11:59 PM GMT). Some of the cities include: London, Paris, Moscow, Rome and Vienna.

Not only are these travel guide apps fully optimized for the iPhone/iPod Touch, they also come with pre-installed maps and are designed for offline use (users can plot their locations right on the interactive map to see what’s around them). Normally priced at $15.99, this kind gesture is an extremely sweet deal for those who are currently stuck in one of these cities or are planning on a European vacation in the future.  Personally, I’d download them all while they’re free. Maybe the apps will even inspire you to visit some of these cities one day. Complete list of the City Guide apps after the break!!
