Looking for some new games to add to your iOS collection this holiday season? If you’re into casual gaming, Halfbrick is the place to be. From the international sensation Fruit Ninja to one of the first “do something besides run” infinite runners Monster Dash, these guys have a wide assortment of options for you to choose from, and they’ve decided to go crazy and give them all away for this festive occasion. This is quite the one-two punch given that they’ve recently updated several of their titles with lots of fancy new features. I could tell you more, but the best way for you to experience the fun is to simply head on over to the App Store and check out the choices yourself.
Jetpack Joyride, the addictive fly-until-you-die casual game from Halfbrick Studios (Fruit Ninja and Monster Dash), will be releasing next month its biggest and most anticipated update since its launch 6 months ago. This time, to enhance gameplay and add another dimension to the Jetpack experience, scientists at the “Legitimate Research” laboratory will be introducing an array of awesome gadgets, which can be purchased with the coins earned in-game and equipped prior to each new go-around. Some of the gadgets include the “Air Barrys” – sneakers that help make dodging the zappers much easier; X-RAY SPECS – glasses that allow you to see what’s inside those pickup vehicles; and the Free Ride – a free pass to a the motor pool before smashing through the lab walls. In addition, any two of the 15 planned Gadgets can be mixed and matched to create a ton of unique combinations. No exact date has been announced for the update, though when it does arrive in April, it’ll be a free download for those who already own the game. Check out the promo trailer for the “Air Barrys” and PR after the break.
Halfbrick Studios, Jetpack Joyride, – Free
This week wasn’t so much “blockbuster release” as it was “cute casual goodness”. The one sports game of note was Madden NFL 12 by EA Sports, which among other things includes a staggering roster of 2500 playable characters! For Barry Steakfries fans the wait is over, as Jetpack Joyride has finally made its way to the App Store. I’m just glad they decided to go with a universal binary instead of just iPad, because this looks like a fun and crazy game. Old time gamers looking for a snazzy update to a classic should check out Frogger Decades from Konami Digital. There’s enough retro to get the nostalgia pumping, but enough new twists to make it feel fresh.
