The JBnator Diaries – Jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch with iOS 4.1 via limera1n [Tutorial]

Hi folks! I know it’s been a while, but with the recent release of the long-awaited jailbreak for iOS 4.1 from both geohot and Dev Team I just couldn’t NOT address it. I made a short news bit about it several days ago, but I know what you really want is a detailed step by walkthrough. So here you are! Oh yeah, just remembered – if you’re an owner of an iPhone 2G, 3G or iPod Touch 1G or 2G this is not the article for you. At the moment limera1n only works on iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G/4G, iPad, iPhone 4 and theoretically on the Apple TV 2G. So if you’re the lucky owner of the aforementioned devices – read on!

Unreal fans, grab your iPhones: iDevice does Unreal 3

I cut my 3D FPS teeth on Unreal Tournament ten years ago thanks to the help of a 3DFX Voodoo 2 and a pretty good gaming mouse. Epic let Anandtech’s Anand play around in the sleek, plastic-wrapped world of Unreal Tournament 3 for the iDevice. If Unreal doesn’t mean anything to you, think Gears of War 2 – that bit of badass gaming runs on the same technology. Of course, Epic have scaled things back to allow the iDevice some breathing room for gaming. And, somehow, I cannot imagine physics processing going very far even with the iPhone 3GS, but I’ve been wrong before. Evidently, another yet-unnamed portable will get the BFG treatment in a demo at next month’s CES.

Video and more screenies after the gap:

iLounge posted a brilliantly unscientific test comparing the 3GS, 3G, Touch 2G and the new one – a test which moves me from the belly up. And, it should you too. Of course exempt is the new 8GB model which is a brilliant marketing rehash of last years model, though it lacks a few $$$ of unneeded weight. The verdict (as you will notice on the videos) is that the Touch 3G is faster than any other iDevice platform, even if by mere seconds.
