The wait for an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini is finally over. Team evad3rs has moments ago released the evasi0n jailbreak, which isn’t only untethered (meaning you can reboot without having to “tether” to a computer), but is compatible with all iDevices running iOS 6.0 through 6.1. iPhone 5 users can now get back to using awesome Cydia apps like SBSettings, Zephyr and Springtomizer 2, just several of the non-Apple sanctioned apps that seriously enhances the whole iOS experience. To get started, check out the evasi0n FAQ page for step-by-step instructions on how to install this Jailbreak. But before you continue – and assuming you want to run iOS 6.1 while Jailbroken – it is recommended that you update your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad via iTunes, rather than directly from your device –> settings (aka OTA).
Well that didn’t take long to jailbreak the iPhone 5. Renowned Cydia dev Grant Paul (aka Chpwn) tweeted last night an image of an iPhone 5 running Cydia, which is the first known jailbreak for Apple’s latest iDevice and A6 chip. Another tweet shows a 640 x 1136 screenshot (the new iPhone’s display resolution) of Cydia’s homepage. This iPhone 5 Jailbreak is not currently available to the public, and it’s not currently known when it will be. Hopefully, it’ll be sooner rather than later, as I’m definitely missing tweaks like SBSettings and Zephyr on mine. Two days ago, a jailbreak for iOS 6 was released in the form of redsn0w, though it is a tethered one and only works on the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th gen and iPhone 3GS.[Engadget]
