Reading has increasingly become a dying pastime in the current age of TV and Podcasting. Almost the only real place I can find the opportunity to enjoy it is on the commute to work and back. How great it is to enjoy a good long article from the comfort of my iDevice. And here I often run into a problem – no data coverage. Frustrated at the greedy mobile operators, stealing my only chance of broadening my horizons I set out on a quest to find an answer. And I did – Instapaper Pro!
Instapaper Pro, an excellent app that allows you to read saved webpages without internet connectivity (and one of my go-to apps on my iPhone and iPad), has just been updated with several new features, with the most notable being the redesign of the reading screen on the iPad version. Instead of being located at the bottom of the screen, the controls (font, brightness, favorites etc) are now at the top, similar to what you’ll find on Apple’s iPad Safari browser. Our favorite virtual candy store, aka the App Store, will turn 1 come July 11, 2009. Who would’ve thought that in such a short time span, over 50,000 apps would make their way onto the iDevice? While plenty of these are include useless fart, puke and other silly applications, we have come to bear witness to some excellent games that rival or even surpass those on the DS and PSP. To celebrate this 1 yr anniversary, Apple has released their 30 favorite Game and Non-game apps.
Needless to say, choosing 60 from the tens of thousands of quality apps to highlight the App Store’s birthday is no easy task. Personally, I think the list is pretty good, and will surely vary for each individual you ask. So what’s missing for you? For the complete Birthday Bash list, click here.
