FAA’s Free App of the Day – Percepto
We’re working together with the team at Free App Alliance to highlight a great free app for you to check out.
Percepto, Apple’s Game of the Week when it first released back in early 2011, is an interesting puzzle game in which you take on the role of a small boy who falls asleep and awakens in a strange two-dimensional world.
Your aim, then, is to escape your new flattened confines by overcoming various puzzles, which require you to flip switches and activate moving blocks. In order to progress, you’ll have to move in 2D but exercise your brain and think in 3D. If you’re up for a delightful and unique puzzler, be sure to grab Percepto while it’s still free.

Former Angry Birds developers set to launch Noble Nutlings for iOS
Boolagoon, a new studio founded earlier this year by three former Angry Birds developers from Rovio, have been cooking up a new iOS game - Noble Nutlings - set for release next thursday. No, it doesn’t involve catapults or birds, but rather some nutty squirrels and a rickety wooden cart. Billed as an physics based action-racing, you’re charged with piloting said squirrels through 36 levels of terrain (while trying to keep them safely onboard), with an emphasis on being able to customize your ride with fruits and other power-boosting objects.
SEGA’s Sonic Jump is today’s 12 Days of Christmas freebie
The 12 Days of Christmas promotion started 5 days ago, and for its sixth feature gift, it’s none other than SEGA’s Sonic Jump. Not to be dismissed as just a Doodle Jump clone, this variation of Sonic the Hedgehog is a welcome addition, with addictive gameplay and solid replay value (be prepared to spend some dosh on IAPs). While the 12DoC is technically open only to international App Stores, the game did go free 2 days ago in the US, so this is certainly one worthwhile freebie that’s available to all iDevice users.

Midnight Mysteries: Haunted Houdini for iPad
If you enjoy a good hidden object game on your iPad, MumboJumbo’s holiday sale should be right up your alley. Their entire iOS library is now either Free (Luxor 2, 7 Wonders: Magical Mystery Tour and more) or down to just $0.99, which include their HOG/Adventure titles like Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials, Haunted Houdini and Samantha Swift and the Fountains of Fate. Theses normally go for $4.99, so that’s a nice 80% discount. The sale is good until the end of the year, so you’ll have plenty of time to decide which of these great games to grab for free or just a dollar. Karateka remake kicks and punches its way onto iOS App Store
Remember Karateka? You know, that classic 8-bit side-scroller fighter that made your jaw drop back in the 80′s? Well Jordan Mechner, the man behind the game and who later made Prince of Persia, has brought Karateka back to life with the help of Jeff Matsuda’s artwork (The Batman) and music by Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin (Civilization IV). The remake first arrived on XBLA in early November and has now arrived on iOS.

EA Mobile’s Holiday Sale: 55+ iOS Games now $0.99
EA Mobile has once again dropped prices of their most popular iPhone and iPad titles to $0.99, and this one is likely their biggest of the year. Nearly all their iOS games are on sale for a dollar, and for the very first time, FIFA SOCCER 13 and Need for Speed Most Wanted can be had for a buck. If you have yet to pick up some of their more recent offerings or are a new iDevice owner, this holiday season would be a great time to pick up some great games on the cheap for yourself or someone else via iOS 6′s new gifting feature. Chillingo celebrates Holidays with App Store freebies
Unsurprisingly, as we get closer to the Christmas holidays, the App Store has been seeing a ton of price drops on quality apps and games. Chillingo, one of the biggest publishers on the platform, is celebrating the holiday season with 15 iOS games you can download for free. Leading the way is ORC: Vengeance, an awesome action RPG that was recently named in Apple’s Best of 2012 under the “Showpiece Games” category. Others in the list include Endless Road, Pony Trails and Spice Bandits, a superb Tower Defense and one of my favorites in the genre [read about the making of Spice Bandits here].
