The iPhone drives the ‘Spirit of Berlin’ at Freie

Just in case you are not the driver of the dumptruck which overtook me in the oncoming turning lane of a busy city street, this message is for you. If it is you, there is no reason in hell you should be behind a wheel. Freie University in Berlin have been up to something interesting: remote controlling cars via iPhone. The best part? Using real cars, the group headed by Professor Raul Rojas decided that rather than emulating right and left buttons, the accelerometer provided the most realistic input. It seems the group rounded up THE automatic car in the country for this job.

It’s all conjecture as to when this app will hit the App Store, or if Apple will choose to ground the project due to a ‘similar functionality’ clause.
