WhatsApp (TMA Review), one of the most popular messenger apps for the iPhone, has dropped in price to free (previously $0.99). For those of you not familiar, here’s a quick rundown courtesy of iTunes:
WhatsApp messenger is a cross platform smartphone messenger currently available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia phones. The application utilizes push notifications to instantly get messages from friends, colleagues and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, pictures, audio notes, and video messages at no cost. All features are included without the need for extra in-application purchases.
Aside from the features and the fact that it doesn’t cost you a dime to send/receive messages, the best part about the app is that a good number of iOS users are already on it; in fact, you’d be surprised at how many of your friends are whatsappin’ once you get set up (which takes a minute or so). No word on how long the freebie will last until, so be sure to grab it while the deal’s still on.

Chillingo’s Minigore (TMA Review), one of the most addictive dual stick shooters on the iPhone to this day, is now free for a limited time thanks to the upcoming Minigore 5 update and anticipated release of the classic game Death Rally . With the previous episode 4 update, players were treated with co-op multiplayer over WLAN and the Elder Gore character pack (IAP) and improved retina display support. If you dig non-stop action on your iDevice, do youself the favor and grab Minigore while it’s free. Ep. 5 with more goodies should be just around the corner…
Gameprom, well know for their bestselling Pinball games for the iPhone, is now offering Wild West Pinball, The Deep Pinball and Jungle Style Pinball as Freebies for a limited time. While these separate titles don’t have Retina Support (Pinball HD does and has all three tables as a single app), they should still satisfy your thirst for bouncing balls and high scores, especially for the price of free. Grab ‘em now if you have yet to do so.
For those of you who enjoy dual stick shooters, here’s a great Freebie for you. Revolt, a visually impressive and solid 3D dual stick shooter is now free for one day. ChiffaN reviewed this one recently and had this to say:
Revolt is a solid dual-stick shooter that will probably appeal to the more experienced audience. The story levels are huge and it’s easy to get lost in them, but if you don’t mind a little backtracking along the way, this shouldn’t be an issue. The customization opportunities are quite nice, giving the player more control over your character that is common for the genre.
Since the game runs in 3D and is rather graphics intensive, older iDevice owners may run into lag issues during later parts of the game. No matter, if you enjoy good action and blowing things up, don’t miss out on this paid–>free offer. It won’t last long!
Blacksmith Games, the brains behind the adorable platformer Plushed, is back again for another Appvent Calendar event. Like last year, the Appvent Calendar will feature a free quality game everyday until Dec 25th. In addition, iDevice users will be treated to a free daily app (non-game) as well. Leading off the Calendar is the awesome Time Geeks: Find All!, a stylish and fun spot the object game that shouldn’t be missed. Also free is My Artists, an app that enhances your iPod music library with images, videos and more.
And if you missed it earlier, Gameloft is also running their Twitter Advent Calendar, where they’ll also be giving away freebies and announcing sales daily for the next 24 days. Oh yeah, their smash hit Driver™ is now free (previously $4.99). Make sure you grab it before it’s too late!
Minigore (TMA Review), Chillingo’s prized dual stick shooter and one of the most addictive in the genre, is now FREE for the next 48 hours. Despite being released almost a year and a half ago, Minigore is still popular among action fans and it’s also responsible for the onslaught of similar games that have subsequently been released on the App Store. Oh, and it’s still getting new content via occasional updates to keep the action alive.
Can you survive the onslaught of furries in the dark wilderness of Hardland? Help John Gore avoid his enemies and fill them full of lead in this action-packed arcade shooter. Intuitive dual-stick controls and stunning, fluid visuals make for one of the most addictive and characterful games on the App Store.
If you even remotely enjoy action games and have yet to pick Minigore up, this is a must have for your iPhone and iPod Touch. You’ll soon find out why shooting fuzzy black creatures has never been more fun.
