With Christmas fast approaching, the App Store’s been seeing plenty of quality freebies of late. Halfbrick, the devs who brought you Fruit Ninja, has dropped the superbly addictive Jetpack Joyride to $0 for a limited time. Aside from its well designed one touch gameplay, the various achievements and purchasable new gear will keep you coming back for more…and more. Also free is Sentinel 3: Homeworld (TMA Review), the third installment in the excellent TD series by Origin8. And if you don’t mind a few ads here and there, Gameloft is now offering the solid hack ‘n slash Hero of Sparta II completely free.

EA’s Daily Deals is cranking up the heat with more awesome daily freebies, with MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition for the iPhone and iPad going FREE for a limited time. This classic board game is especially fun on the iPad with friends and family thanks to its 10″ screen. Not to mention that the regular price for the HD version is $9.99. Also free today Pro Zombie Soccer from Chillingo, a superb castle defense type game that involves a deadly soccer ball and zombies!

Telltale Games’ Monkey Island Tales 1 - the fifth game in the popular Monkey Island series – is now free for a limited time (coinciding with today’s release of episode 2 for the iPhone). Like most Telltale games on the App Store, M.I.T is an episodic adventure that puts you in the shoes of your favorite pirate, Guybrush Threepwood, once again. CIA: Operation Ajax, a superb interactive comic book app based on the true story of the Iranian Coup during the early 50′s (one backed by the CIA), is now free once again for a limited time. The carefully crafted Operation Ajax took several years in the making and its quality is apparent the moment you fire it on your iPad. The app includes 9 free tracks with scrolling lyrics for you to sing-along, and additional songs can be purchased fro $0.99 a pop. ILLUSIA (TMA Review) – Another RPG from Gamevil (Zenonia and HYBRID: Eternal Whisper), Illusia is billed as a platform action RPG presented in anime style graphics. Play as a fighter or mage and rely on various active, passive and buff skills. Like many iOS games nowadays, you can also purchase potions and various items via IAPs.
Ninja Pong - A simple yet addictive casual game that brings together the gameplay of ‘pong’ and deadly ninjas. Similar to breakout style games, you must slide a hovering paddle left/right to ensure that the ninjas make their way across from one platform to another safely. 2 game modes, retina graphics and unlockable content are some of the features of Ninja Pong. The HD version for the iPad is also free for a limited time.

EA Mobile is getting into the spirit of Christmas early with “Daily Deals“, where steep price drops or straight-out freebies are offered everyday. It actually kicked off a few days back, when The Sims Medieval and SHIFT 2 Unleashed (still showing as $0 as of writing) were the first two EA games to go free. Discounts on in-game content via IAPs are also part of the daily offerings, as can be seen in today’s “hot deal” for Fantasy Safari and Road Trippin’. The promo will run until Jan 2nd, 2012 and a new list of special deals will be refreshed at 9:00am PST each day.

Anooki Jump - A hidden gem of of the “Infinite Jump” variety, Anooki Jump was reviewed by Eric a few months back and the visually stylish jumper received a Kiss It rating. Play as Anook and Nooki as you leap from one ice cube to another, though you’ll need to alternate between the two to replenish your health meter. If you enjoyed Doodle Jump, this one is certainly worth adding to your collection.
Linkoidz - From the makers of the adorable casual game Sneezies, Linkoidz is an out of this world (and fun) arcade puzzler. Suck Linkoidz into your space gun and shoot them back out into a different column with finger swipers, where multiple matches of the same color will be destroyed. Lots of different gameplay strategies for generating combos. Highly recommended for fans of fast paced match 3 games .
Space Miner - Celebrating the release of Book Of Heroes (also a freebie), Venan Entertainment has dropped the awesome Space Miner to free. Another Kiss It rating in our review, this top-down Shooter/RPG makes space exploration fun even for casual gamers. The superb graphics, hilarious storyline and hours upon hours of gameplay made this one of the best games of 2010. The iPad version is also now free through the weekend.

If you like physics puzzlers AND freebies, this one’s definitely for you. Apple has started giving away copies of the bestselling and addictively fun Where’s My Water? via Facebook earlier this evening. All you need to do is visit Apple’s Facebook page, click on the Where’s My Water promo banner and “Like” the App Store. You’ll then be given a redeem code, which is good until Dec 15th. Nice and easy! Coincidentally, the game was also updated today, bringing 20 new levels, all new collectables and a whole new way to play the game – Steam (you can now convert water into steam and vice versa to solve puzzles). Just make sure you don’t try downloading the game via iTunes…the $0.99 price tag remains unchanged.
