December App Hall of Fame Inductees announced…Drop7′s in the house!

Area/Code's Drop 7

The App Hall of Fame’s December inductees have just been outed and and 9 out of the 12 selections this time are games. One of them is Drop7 (TMA Review), a one of a kind puzzler that’s best described as “Tetris meets Sudoku”. It’s hands down my favorite title on the iDevice and also the only game I actually must play every single day. Yeah, it’s that addictive. In case you’re fanatic as well, my high score for Hardcore mode is 931,751. (and it’s still not good enough for Top 100 worldwide).

Other games that were just inducted include: Peggle, Zen Bound 2 Universal, iBlast Moki and Space Invaders Infinity Gene. The three non-game apps are Boxcar, Skype and Netflix. All in all, these are all worthy selections and ones iOS users should definitely check out. You can find all 12 inductees for each month right here.

Drop7 updated, now compatible with iOS 4.0

Drop7, one of the most unheralded and addictive Puzzle games on the App Store, is now compatible with iOS 4.0. Prior to the 1.4 update, the game would unfortunately crash on launch with the latest OS. Making matters worse was that it took Apple nearly 2 weeks to approve this version and as such, Drop7 addicts (like myself) were left without a proper nightly recap and fix. It even got to a point where I was tempted to downgrade back to OS 3.1.3 while waiting just so I could have my favorite iPhone game back.

For those not familiar with the game, it’s billed as a “Tetris meets Sudoku” puzzler and it is truly unique in every sense. While there isn’t a free lite version for you check out, it can be enjoyed as a flash game in the form of Chain Factor. Newcomers to Drop7 will probably want to take a look at my review where I’ve given some brief instructions on how to play, as the basic concept is not like anything you’ve experienced before. Puzzle fans will definitely want to check this awesome game out. Note: Unfortunately, the 1.4 update no longer works on the iPad. Area/Code are working on a fix and hopefully it’ll be out shortly.

Drop7 in Review – Drop it like its hot…

drop7_5It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that puzzle games are one of the most popular genres at the App Store. A quick glance at iTunes will reveal 102 pages (and growing) of such games. While this maybe the case,  it’s a safe bet to say that the majority of new puzzle releases are either complete knock offs of previous efforts or are simply uninspired. Drop7, on the other hand, isn’t one of these games. Area/Code’s relatively obscure drop ‘em and match ‘em puzzler is without a doubt an original “Tetris meets Sudoku” game that shouldn’t be missed by fans of the genre.
