SEATTLE and DUBLIN, March 18, 2011  – PopCap Games, the worldwide leader in casual games, today announced that it is discounting the prices of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad adaptations of all of its games including Bejeweled®, Bookworm®, Chuzzle®, Peggle® and Plants vs. Zombies™ for 48 hours to raise funds for earthquake-stricken Japan. Partnering with the Red Cross, PopCap will donate all of its revenues from the sale, which begins Saturday, March 19 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and ends at midnight PDT on Sunday, March 20. The price of each iPhone and iPod touch title is reduced to US99 cents during that time, while the iPad adaptations are reduced to US$1.99. Consumers can purchase the games via the Apple App Store or by going to PopCap.com.

“We recently opened an office in Tokyo, and while our Japan-based employees are safe and uninjured, we understand countless others in Japan need food, shelter, and medical attention,” said Ellen Marett, Senior Director of Workforce Culture at PopCap. “Given that Plants vs. Zombies reached #1 on the iPhone and iPad sales charts in Japan, it seemed like the most appropriate game to feature in this fundraising campaign.”

The devastation and dire situation in Haiti due to the recent earthquakes have opened the hearts (and wallets) of people from all over the world. Donations have been pouring into aid agencies in hopes of saving lives and help rebuild one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. Today, Weiner Family Studios have announced that all proceeds from sales this week of their iPhone app A Family Matters, will be donated to AmeriCares.

Family Matters is an iPhone/iPod touch application that allows families to enjoy deeper more meaningful conversations. Mr. Weiner says, “My family created Family Matters to help parents and children communicate more effectively. Unlike most applications targeted at children, this isn’t designed to “keep the kids busy. It is designed to help the family learn from and enjoy each other.”

The app is intended to help foster better communication between parents and children, so needless to say, it won’t appeal to you if you don’t have your own family just yet. However, if you do and would like to check out this family app that was recently featured in the App Store’s What’s Hot section, now would be a great time as your $1.99 will go into helping a good cause. The full press release and video after the gap.

Press Release:

Weiner Family Studios today announced they are donating all proceeds from its well-received iPhone application, “A Family Matters” to a Haiti relief fund this week. A Family Matters is an iPhone and iPod touch application that allows families to enjoy deeper more meaningful conversations. What Family Matters gives you is a set of questions and activities designed to help you communicate more effectively with your children.

Mansfield, MA – Weiner Family Studios is donating all proceeds from its well-received iPhone application, “A Family Matters” ™ to a Haiti relief fund this week.

According to the developer, Scott Weiner, “The disaster in Haiti is terrible and my family wants to do what we can to help. Since ‘A Family Matters’ has gained exposure as part of Apple’s What’s Hot list we have increased popularity and the opportunity to donate more to the relief than usual. For this reason we have decided to take all proceeds from sales this week and donate it to AmeriCares.”

Apple showcases interesting applications in their What’s Hot list on their iTunes App store. Through this list “A Family Matters” gained popularity and ranked as high as the #2 application in the Travel category.

“We are doing our small part through donation but more importantly we are hoping to increase awareness so others help too. They can purchase A Family Matters for only $1.99 and help that way or they can contact a reputable charity directly.”

About Family Matters
We built this application to help us parent more effectively. We were tired of family dinners where the conversation consisted of “How was your day?”… “fine”. What Family Matters ™ gives you is a set of questions and activities designed to help you communicate more effectively with your children. We found it leads to more and deeper conversations with our kids and we think it could do the same for you. Unlike other applications that quiz or provide facts, this tool is venue-driven.

This means the activities are geared toward your location. We currently cover common places you may engage in conversation or need to pass the time such as restaurants, waiting rooms or on long road trips. Of course there is a general category for use around the dinner table or practically anywhere you have a few minutes to spend together.
