One thing I like about the App Store is that it gives developers room to experiment without a sizable budget, unlike on consoles where it might costs thousands of dollars just to get development software. As a result we get cool little games like RollOut, a puzzle platformer with a unique premise and an old school look and sound. The game “only” has 50 levels at the moment, but getting through it and beating the “standard” time for each level will be two entirely different challenges.
One of the truly great things about the AppStore model is the fact that it allows for small indie developers to truly shine. A few years ago, one such teams made an original Flash game based around safely transporting an object to the surface by destroying the supporting structures. Since then, the idea has found many implementations, e.g. Tiki Totems, Tumbledrop (TMA Review). Today we’ll take a look at another one – Saving Private Sheep by BulkyPix – a humorous reiteration of the same concept.
BABEL Rising, a game that has captivated the attention of the recently interviewed Frédéric Aloé from Coladia, has just been updated with two new game modes available via in-app purchases and has been set FREE for a day in collaboration with the FreeAppADay.com project. Grab it below or check the screens and description after the gap.

So what is My Brute? If you’re familiar with the online flash game, My Brute is a mix of Super Smash Bros and a street gang war – it’s all action packed fighting with items and abilities, except you have no control over it. BulkyPix, the developers behind the the thriller game Hysteria Project, have ported the web version of My Brute to the iDevice. But since that doesn’t explain the whole story, the web version can be found here. It’s a simple yet fun flash title based on automated fights between virtual characters called “brutes”. Typing in a name generates a new brute profile, in which the player can then go to the arena and choose their battles.
TouchMyApps is giving away 5 copies of the highly addictive and unique MMO fighter, My Brute. Developed by Bulkypix, the brains behind the fun interactive game Hysteria Project, My Brute is an online experience where you take your personalized ‘brutes’ and challenge players from around the world. Fighting is all done via automated turn-based combat sequences, but it is well implemented and just as enjoyable. As your character levels up and defeats more foes, new weapons, skills and even sidekicks will be made available to you in your quest to become the most feared brute of all. I highly recommend you give the free online version a play through and see how addictive it can be watching your prized fighter plummel your up-to-no-good counterpart.
To win a copy of My Brute, simply leave a comment and tell us the name(s) of a game you found to be truly unique and addictive on the iDevice. Winners will be selected randomly and the contest will close June 26th.

I’m an extreme horror fanatic who I grew up watching the Twilight Zone and corny horror movies. Who needs “Saw” when you have “Attack Of The Man-Eating Spiders!” (including sequels 2-800)?! Over time, being exposed to such “gruesome” horrors such as “Night Of The Living Dead”, I eventually became desensitized to all things creepy and spooky. How then did I react to an adventure horror game on the comforts of my iPhone? Well, Hysteria Project has exceeded my expectations and brings a unique experience that is quite enjoyable.
