About a month ago, we had posted the teaser trailer for the eagerly awaited Modern Combat: Sandstorm by Gameloft. The video surprised a lot of folks with just how good games on the iDevice can look and makes us wonder if developers have already pushed the iPlatform to its limits in the visuals department (lets hope not). Well the wait is over for all you FPS and Call of Duty 4 fans; Modern Combat is now finally out at the App Store.
Modern Combat: Sandstorm, Gameloft’s new action-thriller will plunge you into the heart of modern war. Assigned to Mission Sandstorm, your duty is to locate and annihilate a new terrorist cell setting up shop and recruiting foreign insurgents in a remote desert hot spot. This jarring first person shooter will equip you with the most sophisticated and powerful modern day weapons.
You never want to judge a book by its cover, but damn, Modern Combat is looking like a must have FPS for the iPhone/iPod Touch. If blasting terrorists to bits is your cup of tea (on the iDevice no less), you probably don’t want to miss out on Gameloft’s latest App Store offering. More info including a sweet gameplay trailer after the jump.

Surely, one of the more useful features we’ve all been waiting for on the iPhone is the support for Gmail push. While other smartphone users live the good life and receive emails notifications on the fly, iPhone users had to resort to data fetching, where the phone attempts to “pull” new mail every 15 minutes or so. Not only did this consume more battery life, but with a platform that supports over 60,000 applications, we certainly expected more. Now thanks to OS 3.0 and its push notification feature, developers like Tiverias has filled the void with GPush, an app that notifies you of Gmails the moment they arrive.
Tiverias Apps, GPush, $0.99, 0.3MB
Connect2Media, the same devs who brought us the well received Go Go Rescue Squad, has released Timeloop, a unique puzzle game where the player must use short jumps in time (aka Timeloops) to travel back in time in order to help their previous self solve puzzles. While this may sound strange at first, you’ll quickly grasp the concept and come to appreciate what Timeloop will have to offer. Here’s what shigzeo wrote in his excellent in-depth look at the game:
But that is where this game is ingenious. Most of the puzzle-solving is done with regards to opening doors to the next room. Some are straight-forward, requiring only the overhaul of one remote-control desk. Others, however, require Nik to go back in time, duplicate and shadow his former self and finally, perform the needed action…Timeloop rocks. Its graphics are light-hearted, silly, and colourfully perfect for its theme. There are cute comic-book cut sequences and good humour all about this game.
Released at the promotional price of $0.99, Timeloop is certainly easy on the pocket and should please gamers looking for their next puzzler that has great visuals and one that introduces new and unique gameplay elements. More info, including gameplay video after the jump.
Yesterday, we saw the release of perhaps one of the most beloved FPS of all time in Duke Nukem 3D for the iDevice. Today, another classic FPS has been brought back to life in the form of Wolfenstein RPG (published by gaming giant Electronic Arts). This reincarnation of Wolfenstein as a turn based adventure title was first enjoyed across various mobile platforms in late 2008, and even appeared briefly at the App Store back in May (Japan) before it was rumored to have been pulled for fear that players would confuse it with id Software’s earlier release of Wolfenstein Classic 3D.
You are Sergeant B.J. Blazkowicz, leader of an elite U.S. fighting unit on a Special Ops assignment. Your call to duty is to save the world from the grip of the evil Axis Army that dwells in Castle Wolfenstein. Fight your way through a freakish bestiary of zombies, mutations, elite soldiers and more. Use your boots, fists and toilets to kick, punch and pummel your enemies to a pulp. Inflict serious damage with weapons such as a flamethrower, a rocket launcher, and a Tesla! GET READY FOR ACTION IN WOLFENSTEIN RPG…
If Wolfenstein and RPGs tickle your fancy, this latest id Software/EA offering may just be what the doctor ordered. Have a look at the gameplay video after the jump to see if its remotely worth your hard earned moola.

We’ve already previewed/reviewed the game, held a nice giveaway and even interviewed the bright minds of Gamevil right at the heart of their Seoul Headquarters. So what else is there to cover about Zenonia? The Lite version of course! Gamevil has just sent word that Zenonia Lite is here and now available at the App Store. That’s right folks, the iDevice’s best ARPG can be downloaded free for all to see what the fuss is all about. This version features:
- Total 8 playable main & sub quests
- Full feature play in the village of Alyes
- Normal and rare items available among 5 item classes.
By the looks of it, Zenonia Lite still offers quite a bit for gamers to sink their teeth into. I’d even say that it’d be surprising NOT to see if this one make it to #1 on the Free Apps chart in the very near future. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you haven’t already done so.
As expected, the highly anticipated Doom Resurrection has been released today at the App Store. Unlike id Software’s first iDevice title Wolfenstein 3D Classic, Doom Resurrection is a brand new Doom experience designed from the ground up for the i-Platform.
Scientists on a remote research facility on Mars have lost control of their experiment and all Hell has broken loose. As the last surviving Marine in your unit, you must defeat Hell’s minions and unravel the mystery of what has happened on Mars. Earth’s future depends on you!
Courage alone will not be enough to stand up to the evil that awaits you. Utilize a devastating arsenal of weapons, helpful NPC’s and your environment to succeed. With an assault rifle, shotgun, a vicious chainsaw, and more, you will even the odds in a raging battle against unnatural beasts hell-bent on flaying your flesh and damning your soul.
While Resurrection is by all account an FPS, id Software elected for an “on-rail” shooter as opposed to giving players freedom of movement in any given level. With the scripted path that players must take, the heart of the action lies in the shooting aspect of the game, which is controlled via the accelerometer. With stunning visuals, graphical assets from Doom 3, 8 all new levels, 5 hours of gameplay and an impressive 30 frames per second of sweet onscreen mayhem, FPS fans will not want to miss out on this very promising and latest installment of Doom.
id Software, Doom Resurrection, $9.99, 79.6 MB
Unlike the Tower Defense genre, iDevice gamers have yet to be bombarded with RTS (Real Time Strategy) titles. Perhaps the most notable thus far are ‘Warfare Incorporated‘ – the first real RTS to hit the App Store, ‘Rise of Lost Empires‘ – Gameloft’s answer to a mobile Warcraft and ‘Ancient Tribes‘ – CDE’s sleeper hit that is suprisingly fun with deep gameplay. Now, you can add Javier Davalos’ Quantum Collapse to the mix of quality RTSes for your iPhone/Touch.
Quantum Collapse : The definitive Real Time Strategy game for the iPhone and iPod touch has arrived!
A TRUE RTS GAME FOR THE IDEVICE: Quantum Collapse is UNQUESTIONABLY the best RTS for the platform, providing hours and hours of unmatched gaming. The richly varied missions provide a unique encounter and environment for each level. Epic Battles, Hero missions, super weapons, units with unique powerups are just some of the detail you’ll find in Quantum Collapse.
Quantum Collapse does indeed look very promising and could very well be what RTS fans have been waiting for. Not only is the game on sale for the introductory price of $3.99, but Javier says that skirmish modes and multiplayer will make there way into future updates. TouchMyApps will be working on our review of Quantum Collapse shortly, so be sure to check back right here. In the meantime, whet your appetite with some impressive footage of Q.C in action while all hell breaks loose. Hells Yeah.
Another release, another potential hit on their hands. Chillingo, one of the most successful publishers at the App Store thus far, has just released Knights Onrush, a great looking ‘defend yer castle’ type game for the iDevice. Developed by MoreGames, who also brought you such hits as iDracula and Orions: Legend of Wizards, Knights Onrush looks to take on all current Castle Defense (CD) titles with its fun gameplay and vibrant visuals. Stickwars, the reigning CD champ at the iTunes box office with a great run at the Top 10, will certainly get a run for its money by the visually superior Knights. Jim will be pumping out our review of the game shortly, so stay tuned. In the meanwhile, check out some gameplay vids and features after the break.
