Rovio has just announced that Angry Birds has reached the 1 billion mark for downloads – this includes all 4 games across multiple platforms: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Space.
Angry Birds games have now been downloaded more than a billion times – THANK YOU to all of our incredible fans! This is only the beginning of our story, keep your eyes peeled for what’s coming up next from Rovio!
A little over a week ago, Angry Birds Space became the fastest growing mobile game as it hit 50 million downloads in only 35 days. And to put the 1 billion into perpective, the Apple App Store with its 600,000+ apps reached 25 billion downloads back in March. Despite the fact that it does include the Windows, Mac, Android and other platforms, that’s still 4 games with 1/25 of all iOS downloads! Check out the Angry Birds 1 billion downloads video after the break.
This week brought with it a nice variety of genres to indulge in as far as new games were concerned. Of course fowl tossing fans are in seventh heaven with the release of Angry Birds Space, the latest installment in the insanely popular physics puzzle franchise that made its debut on iOS devices. This time around you’ll conquer the pigs in a galaxy far, far away, and you’ll get new powers for that purpose as well. Top down racing fans that are looking for something a bit different should consider Road Wars HD. This is a two player affair, but not in the way you’d expect – one player controls the car and the other handles the road! I couldn’t forget the zombie slayers in the group either. Zombie Hunter Defense seems like your typical “defend the center of the board” type games until you realize that you must use strategically placed mirrors to ricochet your shots for the most effective damage.
After only 3 days of release, Angry Birds Space can officially be deemed a major hit. Through Twitter, Rovio announced that the latest space-themed Angry Birds game saw 10 million downloads over its initial launch weekend.
10 million Angry Birds Space downloads in less than 3 days! Thanks to our fans, stay tuned for more! #angrybirdsspace
What’s not known at this time is the breakdown between the different platforms, though its probably safe to assume that a large chunk of the downloads are from Android users (it’s free on Google Play, unlike iOS App Store). And with all the hype and publicity surrounding Angry Birds Space, don’t be surprised if the game surpasses the 100 million mark within a few weeks time.
Houston, the Birds have landed…Angry Birds Space, the most ambitious Angry Birds game yet that was first announced by Rovio last month, has finally been released on the iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, and Windows platforms.
After a giant claw kidnaps their eggs, the Angry Birds chase it into a wormhole and find themselves floating in a strange new galaxy – surrounded by space pigs! Luckily the Angry Birds have super powers of their own…
Angry Birds Space features 60 interstellar levels on planets and in zero gravity, resulting in spectacular gameplay ranging from slow-motion puzzles to lightspeed destruction. With regular free updates, new in-app purchases, brand new birds, brand new superpowers, and a whole galaxy to explore, the sky is no longer the limit!
Houston, we have liftoff. Angry Birds, the uber-lucrative gaming property for Rovio (it’s been downloaded over 700 million times across various mobile platforms), will soon be embarking on a journey that’ll take the beloved cast into outer space. From Rovio’s blog:
Angry Birds Space is a completely new game with innovative new gameplay, but with some of the familiar Angry Birds elements that fans already know and love — plus some surprises!
According to Yahoo! Games, Rovio has teamed up with NASA and National Geographic to be their ‘launch partners’ when the game officially releases on March 22nd. With the fourth major installment in the franchise (the last being Angry Birds Rio), Space will let fans sling birds on completely new planets, where there’ll be new gameplay elements like zero gravity, slow-motion trajections, and “lightspeed” destruction. And as part of a coordinated launch effort, Rovio will be simultaneously releasing the mobile game along with other Angry Birds Space offerings in animation, retail and publishing. More details on the game will be unveiled in early March, but in the meantime, you can check out the teaser website and watch the brief trailer below.
