Sometimes the hardest part of getting your hands on an eagerly anticipated release is the waiting. Ever since the original 1112 episode 01 first saw the light of day, I have been leaving scratch marks on my wall just like a prisoner on death roll to help pass the time. 1112 episode 02 (TMA Review) fully met my expectations and holds the crown as the top first-person adventure in our App Store’s Best Adventure. You can guess how I felt about part 3 of the series. Well, after a long one and a half years of waiting the story finally continues in 1112 episode 03/HD and I can tell you right now – it was well worth the wait!
The adventure games genre has had a rocky start on the iDevice with but a few titles available back when the App Store was first launched. Since then many companies have seen the light and the genre found a true rebirth on the iOS, with both ported and original titles appearing every so often. Most notable of the former is definitely the 1112 series, exclusive to the platform and offering a unique and involving story along with gorgeous graphics and holding a firm spot in our AppStore’s Best Adventure games.
And, of course, there’s no denying that playing adventure games on the iPad is even better, especially if they’re optimized for it. Guess what, now you can enjoy the first original adventure game specifically developed for the iOS platform right from the comfort of your dream tablet! Agharta Studios have released 1112 episode 01 HD and promised to update the iPhone version too, with a completely redesigned interface and brand new high quality graphics. If there’s even a bit of an adventure fan in you, don’t dare miss it.

In my interview with the creators of Rogue Planet (TMA Review), Agharta Studio hinted at the sequel to their highly acclaimed adventure game – 1112 episode 01 – the first adventure game originally and exclusively designed for the iDevice and it’s unique capabilities. Following our sneak peak at the beta version a couple of weeks ago, 1112 episode 02 has now been released, so it’s time to give it a thorough run-down and sum up what we’ve got. Can the sequel to an excellent adventure that received an honorable mention in our The App Store’s Best Adventure hold its ground against the fierce competition of the App Store?
The highly anticipated sequel to 1112 episode 01 (the first adventure game to be exclusively designed for the iDevice) is now finally available on the App Store. Episode 02 takes place right after the events of ep. 01, but even if you’ve yet to enjoy the first, the sequel will bring right you up to speed via carefully crafted intro sequences. ChiffaN had an exclusive hands-on preview of the game and found it to be an adventure “masterpiece”, so good that it’ll easily top 1st Person Adventure category on our App Store’s Best Adventures list.
Fans of 1112 and adventure games in general will definitely want to check out episode 02. Even causal gamers will likely enjoy uncovering the mysterious circumstances behind Louis’ (protagonist) storyline. Be sure to visit 1112′s official support forums right here at TouchMyApps should you require some help advancing through the game.
Update: 1112 episode 02 is now live on the App Store! [iTunes Link]
Agharta studio has just posted a viral teaser video along with a trailer, showing all of the features of their upcoming 1112 Episode 02 adventure game [TMA's exclusive hands-on preview]. The teaser apparently shows what happened to a friend of the thief who tried to steal the developer’s iPhone with a beta build of the game. Crime just doesn’t pay.
And to see what all the fuss is about – be sure to check out our full in-depth preview of 1112 Episode 02 or simply take a peek at the gameplay trailer after the break. Remember – it has already been submitted and should out and about on the App Store sometime this week.
A little over a year ago, while the App Store was void of even a single decent quality adventure game, a small independent developer called Agharta Studio released 1112 episode 01– the first adventure game to be exclusively developed from the ground up for the iPhone. The project came to fruition through the hard work of a small team led by Alexandre Leboucher and got high praise from critics all across the board (including an honorable mention in our The App Store’s Best Adventure). It was stylish, beautifully drawn and had an original storyline and puzzles to back it all up.
Despite the original promise of a sequel in about 4 month’s time, the team decided to take a little detour to make the excellent Rogue Planet, which messed up the schedule somewhat. Fastforward to April 20, 2010 – Alexandre has just informed me that the long awaited sequel has finally been submitted to Apple and graciously allowed me to take a full hands-on go with 1112 Episode 02. And here’s how it looks.
Update: Check out our Exclusive hands-on preview of 1112 Ep. 2!!
1112 Episode 01 was the App Store’s first adventure game, one exclusively designed and developed for the iPhone a year ago by Agharta Studio. It was highly acclaimed by the critics and earned a well deserved spot in our App Store’s Best Adventure Games. Unfortunately since then the developers took a little detour and released the excellent turn-based strategy – Rogue Planet, which delayed the intended release of 1112 Episode 02.
The good news though is that the game is almost finished and in the final stages of beta-testing. But it seems some people just don’t have the patience! A fan of the original game, through some covert means of her own, found the home address of the lead developer Alexandre Leboucher (whom we incidentally interviewed several months ago) and stole his personal iPhone to check out the game. And what’s more – she even videotaped all of it. Video after the gap!
In the iDevice development community, ground-up production of high-profile games is still quite unusual. Well, joining me today is Alexandre Leboucher who feels very strongly that this is the ONLY way forward. And it may be worth taking his words seriously since he and his small team form Agharta Studio – the creators of the recent turn-based strategy blockbuster, Rogue Planet.
