Strategery is a rather unique take on turn-based strategy games like Risk, one where Global Domination is the goal of the game. To be more precise though, it is essentially an iPhone version of the very popular Online game, Dice Wars. While far from perfect, Strategery is a fast paced game where matches can be finished few minutes at a time and can be quite addictive.

The objective of the game is to take over enemy territories and eliminate them from the board by attacking them with dice. You control the blue circles and the different colored Hexagons are your enemies. To attack your enemy, tap the country you control first, then tap a bordering enemy territory.

Mine is way bigger than yours

The pieces within a country are basically the army, so the bigger it is, the greater chance for higher dice rolls. If the total of your roll is greater than that of your counterpart when attacking, your army will advance while leaving one piece behind. Ideally, you want as many countries linked together as possible since the bigger your ‘linked’ territory, the more bonus pieces you are rewarded at the end of each round.

Just like checkers, you can attack multiple times during each turn (thus jumping around the board), so long as you have at least two pieces to charge with. Be careful though, advancing too fast can spread you too thin and leave you vulnerable the next turn. It should be noted that defending your territories is just as important as attacking, especially on larger maps.

Global Domination on large map

While Strategery’s simplistic gameplay is what makes it fun and easy to pick up, it is also what holds it back from being an even better title. Players may find it frustrating that armys cannot be combined nor can they be moved around without attacking someone. This is especially true when you are not able to move pieces to your weak frontline (and thus reinforce it) that is being pounded by your enemy. Being able to move them around would certainly add an extra element to the game that could very well enhance its fun factor.

Bottom Line: Strategery should please fans who like Risk type games, especially if Dice Wars tickles their fancy. If an online multiplayer mode, a catchy music soundtrack and more gameplay options were included in future updates, Strategery could very well become a hit title for those who dig turn-based strategy games.
