Several days ago, Apple revealed 60 of their favorite game and non-game apps to celebrate the App Store’s first birthday. Well that day, July 11th, has finally arrived and both big and small developers/publishers have taken advantage of this occasion with some great sales. For the next 36 hours, Chillingo’s highly acclaimed Return to Mysterious Island can be had for only $0.99 (Hint: If you dig adventure games, GET IT!). Fans of strategy titles and the ‘Advanced Wars’ series will definitely want to jump on Mecho Wars, now also a buck. We’ve done the dirty work for you and divided up all the worthwhile and more notable sales, according to price. Be sure to have a good look below and pick up some gems likes 7 Cities, Up There, Snail Mail and more!

Just this past weekend, we saw PopCap Games’ mighty popular Peggle go on sale (3 days) from $4.99 to only $0.99. Already one of better selling games at the App Store, Peggle promptly jumped to the Top Ten and currently sits at the #2 spot. Now, Gameloft’s Let’s Golf looks to follow suit with a sale from $4.99, to the sweet price point of a ‘dollah’. Coincidentally, EA’s Tiger Woods PGA TOUR also sees a slight drop ($9.99 -> $6.99). TouchMyApps reviewed both these golf titles and found them to be quite excellent, with each offering endearing qualities of their own. Needless to say, if you’ve been holding out for Let’s Golf or are simply looking for (another) great deal, I suggest you buy this game now. For only a buck, you won’t be sorry you did.
I’ve dug up a few other worthwhile price drops for you, so be sure to have a look at the full post!
Ayngaran Vamatheva, the developer responsible for what is arguably the best Tower Defense game at the App Store in 7 Cities, took some time away from his busy schedule and answered some questions we had about the game, Neptune Entertainment and seamonsters.
Neptune is now the furthest planet from the Sun in our solar system: What sort of symbolism were you going for in choosing your company name?
Neptune is the God of Sea in Roman mythology, and equivalent to Poseidon from Greek mythology. He is truly underrepresented in the Pantheon in both mythologies, and he has a pretty cool weapon, the Trident. He represents a power that is unknown to most so those were the reasons.
7 Cities TD is arguably the most polished and fun Tower Defense game available thus far for the iPhone/iPod Touch. If you haven’t had the chance to play this great defense title, TouchMyApps has 3 promo codes to giveaway! To enter the contest, all you have to do is submit a comment below as well as vote for 7 Cities TD in 1 or more categories for the Best App Ever Awards (if you have indeed played the game). Winners will be selected randomly and our contest ends Jan 7th @ 7am EST.
Neptune Studios’ first release, 7 Cities TD is a new kid on the crowded tower defense block and it brings an arsenal of innovations with it. 7 Cities does not reinvent the ballista but does breathe refinement into a genre that is losing it on the iPhone.
Update: Our 7 Cities TD review is now up.
Neptune Entertainment has released their first game at the App Store, a pirate themed Tower Defense game called 7 Citites TD. Unlike many other defense games, 7 cities TD has hand drawn maps as well as a unique take on how the tower systems work. Each tower gains experience and level up depending on how many enemy kills they have. They also acquire new skills that will make them more effective as they level up. Based on what I have seen thus far, 7 Cities is indeed a solid and promising game with a variety of gameplay options. Tower Defense fans should definitely check this title out. Below are some tutorial screenshots.
