Apps Gone Free for Thanksgiving / Black Friday

We’ve already seen some awesome App Store sales for the US Thanksgiving holiday seaon, but there are also a number of notable games that have gone free. 1112 episode 01, one of the first episodic adventure games exclusive to the iPhone, is now a freebie. The first person adventure featuring protagonist Louis Everett gets better and better, as evidenced by our reviews of 1112 episode 2 and ep 3. Also free are the popular tower defense games from Origin 8 - Sentinel: Mars Defense, Sentinel 2: Earth Defense and Space Station: Frontier, one of my favorite in the genre. Com2uS’ $0.99 Black Friday Sale

Korean mobile games publisher Com2uS has joined Namco as one of to offer a Thanksgiving sales event on the App Store. 8 of their bestselling titles are now on sale for $0.99, including Inotia 3: Children of Carnia and Tower Defense: Lost Earth. No exact time has been given for when the offer ends, though it’s safe to assume that it’ll likely run until the end of the week. More info, piccies and iTunes links after the gap.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Nov. 7 - 13]

This week’s 10 New App Store Games to Watch includes bad boy antics, arcade classics and undead kinfolk. From Gameloft we have Gangstar Rio: City Of Saints, the next installment of their “I wanna be like GTA” series. There are plenty of missions, lots of weapons, and even a tank, so I think all you manly types are pretty well set. If you’re nostalgic for the “old days” you can try Asteroids GUNNER for free. It’s a modern take on one of the first space shooters, and it looks to do its predecessor justice. Puzzle fans that are itching to blow zombies away should give Corpse Granny a spin. You’ll control all sorts of items, including 4 different types of fireballs, all in a quest to rid three separate realms of zombie invaders.

Zombies and other types of undead have been among some of the more popular themes in all areas of pop-culture in the recent years – and the App Store is definitely no exception. There are scores of zombie games in all genres – from line drawing to action shooters, and card games to tower defense. Speaking of the latter, it has just been augmented by Bulkypix’s GRave Defense HD.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Oct. 31 - Nov. 6]

This week’s 10 New App Store Games to Watch is for those that feel the need for speed.  Invictus released Race Of Champions, a racing game that lets you drive licensed cars on real world tracks to compete in a tournament that will determine the best racer in the world.  On the other hand, if you want to feel the excitement of a New York cabbie with a bit more exotic locale you might try Cosmic Cab, the game where your fares are out of this world.  If driving vehicles isn’t your thing at all there’s Zombie Parkour Runner HD, a game that requires you to use your athletic skills to outrun hordes of undead that would love nothing better than to eat your brains.

Price Drop Alert: Com2uS’ iOS games now $0.99

In celebration of the Games category (finally) launching in the Korean App Store, Korean publisher Com2uS has announced that all their non-free iOS games (save for the iPad only versions) are now available for $0.99 for a limited time. Time to pick up titles like Inotia 3: Children of Carnia, Chocolate Tycoon and Puzzle Family for only a buck. The entire list of $0.99 games can be found after the break. 10 New App Store Games To Watch [Oct. 17 - 23]

This feels like a week designed for those who grew up with gaming in the late 80’s through the 90’s.  Dark Incursion has the look of the old Castlevania games from the NES days, except the setting is now a Steampunk world at the height of a world war.  Worms Crazy Golf takes tried and true Worms action and throws in some puzzle aspects and a dimpled white ball to mix things up a bit.  If building a paradise is more your style there’s Virtual City Playground, a modern interpretation of games like SIm City that allows you to build a city with no boundaries or to try and conquer 85 different challenges.

Anomaly Warzone Earth HD in Review – Who’s the bad guy now?

Every once in a while, a game along and makes me truly admire the deviousness of the mind of its creator. The Tower Defense genre, though still relatively young, has probably seen everything but the kitchen sink in terms of gameplay variations. Top and side-view, fixed and open path, lacking in anything but the pure tactical placement of towers and the complete RPG package, rivalling some desktop roleplaying titles. We’ve even had elements of CCG thrown in. Well, Anomaly Warzone Earth HD is the proverbial kitchen sink, turning the genre upside down and inside out.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Sep. 5 - 11]

Tower defense fans can revel in evil a little bit this week with the release of Tiny Heroes, a game that actually lets you play the bad guy and set all kinds of devilish traps to thwart the poor unsuspecting heroes.  Time management fans can mix it up a bit by either expanding their temporary residential knowledge with Hotel Dash 2 or refining their monster breeding skills with Monster Pet Shop.  If you’re a racing fan you can get down and dirty with Race Illegal: High Speed 3D or maybe try something a little bit more cerebral with Grand Prix Story, the latest in the “story” series of 8-bit looking menu driven sims.

Freebie Alert: geoDefense Swarm now free for a day

geoDefense Swarm (TMA Review), the follow up to the critically acclaimed TD game geoDefense (TMA Review) — one which I still consider a favourite of mine in the genre — has dropped in price to free for a limited time. Packed with challenging levels and eye candy visuals, Swarm will certainly keep you glued to your iDevice for quite sometime. Here’s a blurb from our review:

In short, geoDefense Swarm is a treat. It combines the best of the classic tried and tested geoDefense goodness and the deep strategy of Open Field TD games.
