geoDefense Swarm in Review – Kicking it neon style!

Review-Game-geoDS_main2

One of the early hits at the App Store was geoDefense, a fixed-path TD game with Geometry Wars-like graphics style. It won many awards at the time and was highly acclaimed by leading iPhone blogs. Sad to say, I somehow missed that game. But Critical Thought Games, LLC. have given me a second chance with the second instalment in the geoDefense franchise, Swarm, an Open Field design allows the poor sods who missed the first game to still enjoy the legendary geoDefense.

TriDefense in Review – They’re coming at you from all directions!

Review-Game-TriDefense-main

Hola folks! As I wrote in a recent review of Dead Panic, the Tower Defence genre is in serious need of fresh blood, and nobody seems to know the direction to go. One of the most promising directions is “open maps” where the enemies come at you from all directions and you decide where to build your towers stop them. I think the first really good game that featured this type of game-play was the legendary Fieldrunners. Well, TriDefense follows the same general idea but features modifiable terrain and land, air and water(!) based enemies. So, let’s dissect it (I’m out for blood!) and see whether it as good as it sounds.

Mark your territory in upcoming game, ‘Toilet Defense’

toiletdefense_preview2Here at TouchMyApps, we’ve certainly covered our share of defense type games (castle and tower) for the iDevice. Some of the more notable ones include Star Defense, Knights on Rush, Medieval and geoDefense. While these titles each brought something new and unique to the table, they simply can’t compete with Alcomi’s upcoming ‘Toilet Defense’ when it comes to dealing with crap. As evident by the game’s title, your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to play as the watchman named “Red Dungaree” and defend the castle (aka toilet) at all costs from the poor souls who need to go baaad.

How it is hard to live in … New York. There are so many people, who are always in a hurry and run for their business, nevertheless each of them stops to do … the deed, to sit, to think, to lose touch with bustle.

You will be in the role of toilet defender and you need to not let the enemies in the WC, fire them all and scare them off. With each level the quantity of enemies will increase and at the end you will meet with the Boss, who really need to get to cherished room. Stop him and you will win!

Toilet Defense may not appeal to everyone (especially if your idea of a superhero isn’t one who’s dressed in red tights and shoots poop to stop his/her foes), but if the defense genre is right up your alley and “Poop the World” is secretly one of your favorite apps, Alcomi’s latest may very well be the next $0.99 game purchase to provide you with some form entertainment. More screenies and a gameplay video after the jump.

Sentinel 2: Earth Defense in Review – Added ship weapons make for a better TD

sentinel2_preview7

Origin8′s Sentinel: Mars Defense was a nice departure from cute graphics and light-hearted atmosphere among the bevy of tower defense games at the App Store (not to mention it was the first TD to successfully merge the Sci-Fi theme with the genre). It was dark and suspenseful, and planning for the bosses while defending the barriers from the hordes was challenging. Now with their latest sequel, Earth Defense, Origin8 looks to improve on an already impressive Sentinel with more weaponry and some new and welcomed features.

Sentinel 2: Earth Defense Almost Upon Us

sentinel2_preview11Yesterday, we posted about the soon-to-be released Reign of Swords: Episode II, a solid multiplayer TBS (turn based strategy). Well, there’s another sequel about to hit the App Store and it’s none other than Sentinel 2: Earth Defense. The first Sentinel (Mars Defense) successfully blended the TD genre with a Sci-Fi theme and was considered by some as one of the top Tower Defenses on the iDevice. With a new location  and a host of new features and gameplay elements, Sentinel 2 looks poised to take the series to new heights.

It’s war, and this time it’s too close to home. The Martian mission may be over, but the aliens haven’t finished playing space invaders yet. Extraterrestrial eyes have turned to a new target: they want Earth, and you’re the one that has to say ‘no’. Welcome to the future of Tower Defense.

We have more screenshots and a great video of Earth Defense in action after the jump. If you remotely enjoyed the first Sentinel, you are definitely going to want to check out the gameplay vid in action. The game looks downright sweet and all the new features should make it a hit once again come launch day.

Star Defense in Review – TD Given the Super Mario Galaxy Treatment

If there’s one genre of games that has gone through a gamut of change, it’s Tower Defense. Much like the variety of Super Mario Brothers games, there has been a gradual shift from 2D to 3D gameplay. Not content with just 3D graphics and gameplay, the most recent change in the Super Mario Brothers world has been the ability to fully explore a multitude of small planets in an amazing 3D experience. Star Defense represents this next stage in the evolution of TD games…one that breathes new life into a tried and true formula.

geoDefense blasts into App Store, $0.99

geodefense_release8geodefense_release9

Update: Our review of geoDefense can be found here

Critical Thought Games has just released geoDefense, a new and exciting tower defense game for your iPhone/iPod Touch. Inspired by the critically acclaimed Geometry Wars, geoDefense offers high energy gameplay and great visuals.

Something exciting and new in the Tower Defense genre! The geometric vector creeps are fast and intense. With 30 different maps, each its own puzzle, you’ll have to work fast to keep up. Using exciting vectorized graphics, this highly kinetic games brings a whole new dimension to the tower defense. Devastate creeps with blasters, lasers and missiles and watch their energy debris swirl through the gravity wells of your vortex towers. Now it’s time to figure out how to put that absorbed energy to good use.

My first impressions of geoDefense is how challenging and fun the game is. Enemies move fast, so if you want to avoid a quick death, you really have to plan your tower placements and upgrade them accordingly. Unlike many other tower games, geoDefense allows you to play each of the 30 levels whenever you want, without the need to unlock them. I highly recommend you grab a copy while the price is still $0.99. Keep an eye out as we’ll be reviewing geoDefense in the coming week. [geoDefense, $0.99]
