10 New App Store Games To Watch [April 23 - 29]

The last couple of weeks have been pretty prosperous for those that like freemium offerings. RPG fans can indulge in Inotia 4: Assassin Of Berkel, the fourth installment of the action / RPG series from international developer Com2us. You do, of course, have the option of outright buying the game which will automatically eliminate the ads and give you some in-game currency, but IAP can take care of that as well. If you like a little strategy with your action there’s Castle Master 3D, a combination of Action / RPG and castle defense. This game boasts battles of 300 soldiers on each side, but you can expect to run it on nothing less than the latest generation of devices. If you prefer something a bit more lighthearted and focusing on twitchy timing you’ll get a kick out of Cannon Cat (TMA Review). A daredevil feline, a mess of fish trapped in bubbles out in space, and some vicious penguins with helicopter “wings” make this whimsical offering a lot of fun.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [April 2 - 8]

Racing fans got an interesting new option this week in the form of Sky Gnomes.  This little gem lets you take on the role of a gnome and race through the sky on a craft powered by an engine that consumes snowflakes.  If that’s not wacky enough for you then you might consider the new futuristic FPS Bounty Bots.  It’s free to play and lets you engage in warfare using exploding cacti and sniper chimps.  If you’re looking for something a bit more grounded in reality there’s Virtual City 2: Paradise Resort from G5 Entertainment.  This SimCity style game throws in missions, goods to sell and trade, and 4 different locations to hang your virtual hat.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Feb. 6 - 12]

This week should be paradise for scrolling shooter fans.  Cave released another game in the DoDonPachi series called DoDonPachi Blissful Death, and I’m sure it will provide the same frustrating “bullet hell” satisfaction that most other shooters they release do.  The graphics look a bit dated, but if there’s lots of destruction it probably won’t matter too much.  Next up is DariusBurst SP, the latest in a line of horizontal shooters that dates back to 1986.  This installment comes to us courtesy of a PSP port, and I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that it provides a similar thrill to Taito’s earlier release, RayForce (TMA Review).  Finally, if you’re looking for something a bit different there’s Beat Hazard Ultra.  Sure it’s still a shooter, and if we’re lucky there will still be many things to blow up, but this one generates its level based off of the music in your on-device iTunes collection (or off of an internet radio station if you don’t have any music loaded).  Oh, and a few other games came out as well!

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Jan. 30 - Feb. 5]

This week racing fans can let out their impulsive urges with Reckless Racing 2, the third Reckless game to grace us with its presence on the iOS platform.  If it’s half as entertaining as the original or Reckless Getaway, there’s no question that it’s a must have.  If you prefer things a bit more supernatural Capcom has released an iOS port of their acclaimed Nintendo DS game Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.  Among other things you get to possess items and rewind time because you are, after all, dead.  If you’re still craving that Pokemon fix there’s Terapets, a monster capture / combat game with 300 different creatures to trap.  Good luck catching them all!

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Jan 23 - 29]

Gamers that like a nice mix of strategy and RPG have a couple of options from this week’s 10 New Games To Watch list.  Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land drops them in the midst of World War I to fight some nasty supernatural beings.  If you like your games a bit on the lighter side there’s Dungeon Crawlers, a more satirical look at the whole dungeon delving genre that still manages to provide some deep game play.  If you want to throw strategy to the wind there’s Zombie Bunnies, an over the top destruction fest featuring undead rabbits and 99 levels of randomly generated mayhem.

Massive iOS Christmas Sales Roundup

SEGA digging $0.99 deals

Christmas is just 2 days away and the App Store’s once again littered with awesome deals. Numerous big name publishers have dropped most, if not all, their titles to just $0.99, including EA, Big Fish Games and SEGA. If not a dollar, then expect anywhere from 40-75% off regular prices. This is certainly one of the biggest iOS sales of the year (next to Thanksgiving). The majority of these offers are good until even after Christmas, so you should have plenty of time to decide which ones to add to your app collection. The complete roundup after the break.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Dec. 12 - 18]

I imagine that those of you that have been following iOS gaming news are expecting me to jump right in and talk about Grand Theft Auto III, but I’m sure there are enough folks spreading the details on that one right now.  I thought I’d direct your attention towards Legion Of The Damned, a turn based strategy game that allows up to four players to participate in brawls on randomly generated or custom made maps.  Hidden object game aficionados will do well to check out Mystery Manor: Hidden Adventure, a free to play mansion exploration game for the iPad that actually has some social aspects integrated into it.  If you’re into lifestyle simulations you might consider Venture Towns, the latest offering from Kairosoft or The Sims FreePlay from Electronic Arts.  One takes a broader perspective as you build up a town, while the other lets you get up close and personal managing the lives of up to 16 Sims.  Best of all, the latter offering is free.
