    Lightbulb Philips Microphone

This is simply an FYI post for those iTouch owners looking for a microphone. The first one I tried was not supported (D'oh! wish I could remember which it was) . I found the Phillips #SHH1610 at Target for about $10 and it works great. I've used it on hikes and was amazed at what hushed nature sounds it picked up. I have also read good things about the mic that looks like a thumbtack. Someone did sound quality comparison online and to my ears and theirs the quality was much better than Apples headphone/mic.

Save your receipt though because I have posted elsewhere how my kids hear things I can't

Ron, thanks for the information - that is a great price and if the quality is okay, why not. I will be purchasing an Alessis Protrack for review later on - a substantial investment, but I could really use it otherwise too. It has good input options: dual TRS and XLR (yep, balanced inputs), inbuilt omnidirectional recording mic.

Thanks Ron...This is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't buy the thumbtack one because I didn't want to have to keep switching between that and my headphones in order to hear what I just recorded. Finally I'll be able to check out I Am T-Pain on my iPod ;-)

The Philips mic does have a "thru plug" for headphones at the end of the approx 2 ft. cord where the actual mic is with lapel clip and on/off button.
I am playin around with the T-Pain app too, but so far the "auto tune" effect seems very subtle. Maybe I am doing something wrong though. Plus I'm not really a T-Pain kinda guy. Picked it for my kids
