PicTag
Do you like taking pictures? Do you like association games? Then PicTag is for you!
iphone_pictag2.pngPicTag is an everyday social game that allows people to visually explore and share the world around them. Players take photos, tag them according to a simple word game logic, and earn points for their creativity.
I have been excited about this game for a long time... but it hasn't had any updates in a while. Last I heard they were doing alpha testing (which one could sign up for on their website).
According to their website: http://www.pictag.net
Players make a move in a game by taking a photo and tagging it with a word (or two) whose first letter starts with the last letter of the previous tag. For example, if the most recent photo in a game has a tag ‘bird’, the next photo that a player can upload must contain something that starts with the letter ‘d’ (like 'donut')and be tagged as such. Additionally, once a word has been used as a tag within a game, it cannot be repeated.

Groups of players accumulate a chain of photos in games with various settings. These settings include maximum players, # of points required to win and a description set by the moderator/creator of the game. Games can last from few hours to a few weeks depending on the players' activity levels.
To gain points, players simply need to make moves. The first letter of a player’s tag determines the point value of a particular move based on a value chart from the game Scrabble:
* 1 point: E, A, I, O, N, R, T, L, S, U
* 2 points: D, G
* 3 points: B, C, M, P
* 4 points: F, H, V, W, Y
* 5 points: K
* 8 points: J, X
* 10 points: Q, Z
In addition to the points gained for each move, points are also won for ending up in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. The player in last place loses some points, to discourage players from joining too many games at once. At the end of each game, these points will be added to the player’s aggregate score.
They are also working on a bonus point system to encourage players to travel, explore, and be more creative with their moves. The following lists the bonuses currently in development:
* Fresh Bonus for tags whose last letter appears for the first time in a game
* Distance Bonus for traveling long distances between moves within a single game
Sounds like a lot of fun to me! Hope they get around to releasing it this year.
