Default Rumour: Maxi Pad - Apple working on larger full OSX tablet

Right, so this should have been seen a mile off: with all the puzzlement over Apple's decision to narrow their tablet to iDevice software standards, people were bound to be standoffish. Well, there is at least a pretty bad rendering of a full OSX tablet running the gamut of the internetz now, so have at it maties!

What do you think? Would you prefer a full OSX iPad? Why? What are the benefits/detractors of it versus the current iPad?

Yes, I would prefer a full OSX tablet from Apple, and not a glorified ipod touch. I use design software and have a Macbook Pro, but it would be nice to have a more compact tablet to carry around for that.

I feel your pain mate. However, I am hoping and assuming (stupidly perhaps) that there will be design software of some sort or another which will be useful for iPad holders. The screen should be better (if lower res) than that of a MacBook Pro (and I hope so) for designers/photographers. It is dire now.

A full OSX compatible tablet was what I had hoped the iPad would be.

Though I don't think we will see one now...

To be honest, I haven't watched the keynote or other videos on the apple site. I may find a use for the pad, but I haven't so far.

It's just stupid to have the iPhone OS on it instead of any other OS period. That's the first thing everyone is already saying or thinks about when they mention the iPad, "It's just a big ass iPod." Apple definitely wasn't original with this product at all, even with the name.

There's nothing original about taking the word iPod and putting the letter a in place of the letter o, and that's just the beginning of the uselessness the iPad stands for.

when you come to think of working with a touch device this big, you need a serious OS to work with. You'd definitely want to have two windows open side-by side (and the screen size surely permits it!)
Say, an IM window - should be visible all the time... Switching back and forth is sickening. You'll always have that thought while using iPad with iphone OS - something like "what for do I have such a damn big screen if I can't use it efficiently?"

Ehh... I don't think so. As much as I'd like to see it happen, Apple seems to love having mobile operating systems for mobile devices. And you can't blame them, really -- they're all about the user experience. Mac OS X isn't built for a touchscreen. It's built for a mouse and keyboard interface, whereas iPhone OS was built from the ground up with a touchscreen in mind.

I honestly think the Maxi pad is a hoax put forth by disgruntled fans. While I am keen on the iPad and will probably buy one, I caution you 'bullocks' sayers to wait till you hold and use one to write it off. Devs: Apple won't disappoint in providing a great platform for continued fun.

Frankly, I don't see the need for a full Mac OS X tablet. Remember, the iPhone OS apps are optimized for the touchscreen and multitouch in particular. Mac OS apps aren't and it will be a major pain working with them on touch screen. That is the main issue with the multitude of Windows-based tablets right now. And that is what will make the iPad succeed.
