Default Need more space? Galaxy on Fire 2

My favorite Space Sim is Galaxy on Fire, and just look. There will be a sequel.

It really looks beautiful so far and I'm curious to what new elements the sequel will bring to the table.

What I wish to see is more open sandbox games and trading during the main campaign. In the first game the sandbox only opened up after you beat the main campaign, but after that there wasn't much of a goal to keep trading.

You can find the full press release here.

GoF 1 was quite a dissapointment for me - at least compared to the Privateer/X1-2-3 PC series that I adore. Not sure where they will go with part 2, but the fact it was designed as Java game makes me pessimistic.

In the dev diary they said that the have rewitten everything in Objective C.

And to be honest, java is a pretty powerful C derivate and I rather have a game ported from another C language to Obj.C than a game ported from something completely different like Flash.

    Nine,

Java is not a C derivative - it just uses similar semantics. And the problem is not that the game was "completely rewritten", the problem is that it was designed from the ground up for a completely different platform with different capabilities than the iPhone. Which means that all of the iPhone specific features, i.e. multitouch (or even touch interface as a whole), accelerometer, lack of a physical keyboard, etc. will be strapped on top like a fifth leg to a cow.

Well it's an object oriented language which a C derived syntax. The same as apples/NEXts objective-c. SO I'd say my arguemtn is still valid. I rather have a Java game ported than a Flash game

But you're concerns are valid. A version build from the ground up for the iPhone would be superior in any way. It would be interesting if the first game was build for Java fist.

You know, if you HAVE to have your privateer fix... you can play Privateer for free thanks to Gemini Gold, the 100% reconstructed Privateer. I've been playing for years, but forgot about it as I left my joystick at home. The new versions (still hard as hell -- TWSS), are smoother than their older versions. Also Vega Strike is a great opensource Privateer clone with...

    MULTIPLAYER!

Vega Strike is the engine that runs Gemini Gold and its Star Trek tweaks. Great great engine.

In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to anything that comes to the iDevice...
