My iPod Touch kept on restarting when I used the Search function to find my apps. However, the problem only occurs when I type S or W. Other alphabets do not kick off the restart process. How do I resolve this?

Restarting as in rebooting or respringing?
Reboot shows the Apple logo.
Respring shows the loading circle thing.
And if worst comes to worst, you can Restore your iPod.

I have tried rebooting - holding home and the sleep/wake button. But still have same problem.
What is respringing?
If I restore - does it mean I loose all my data?
I'm assuming you don't have a jailbroken iPod Touch.
When you type S or W and your iPod Touch restarts, does it show the Apple logo or does it show a loading circle?
If you restore, you do lose all of your data. However, if you sync before you restore, and then sync afterwards, everything should be back on your iPod. However, you will lose all of your app data, unless the app syncs everything into their cloud, such as ngmoco.

Its not jailbroken. It shows the Apple logo when it restarts and the whole device get rather warm. The restart seems to take a long time and even when the homepage appears (the one with the wallpaper), i can see a small loading circle in which will get stuck for some time. Its only lately (before the restart issue) that i saw the small loading circle when I restart the iPod touch - I have been restarting quite often the last few days mainly to do "we rule" as I keep getting the message about "low memory and to restart".
