Default Steam and Valve games are comming to the Mac

    500x_03_and_i_m_a_pc.jpg

I guess this could be interesting since there are some MAc users on this board.

Gordon Freeman with an Apple logo stamped into his chest and the Heavy coming straight out of an iPod commercial here are actually saying quite a lot. Yes, they're pointing at releases of Half-Life and Team Fortress 2 for Mac, probably announced at the Game Developers Conference later this month. (Well, hopefully.) If they really are teasing Mac releases of those franchises, that's saying something huge about Valve, and their decision to adopt Mac as a full-fledged platform. I mean, Valve hasn't even touched the PS3, and now they're developing for Mac?

I have to say that must be exciting for gamers (PC gamers), but I am 'meh' ing at this. I've windows if I need it and can dual boot, but I never really care enough anymore to do it. Should sell all my games: X3, X2 (the goodies), Ultima 1-9, etc.

    Thanks for the news mate.

I don't play as much as I used to on the PC. In fact there are only 2 games that I have played on the PC in the last months are WoW and Left 4 Dead 2. If they release L4D for the Mac I actually won't be missing anything on the PC.

you should be slapped everytime you mention WoW :P

As for the news, pretty sweet deal for gamers who are mac based as the steam platform will open up a veritable Pandora's Box of potential games to be played on mac.

I haven't played TF2 but HL2 and it's episodes are some of my all time favorite games. I did build a kickin' PC for gaming because so many awesome titles just weren't being ported to the MacOS. It's good news for Mac users if/when it happens.

Haven't dowloaded any games for my mac. This would be something to look into. Thanks for the info.

Well the cat is out the sack...

All the valve games are coming out in April and we won't have to pay again for games we already own.

After much speculation and some not-so-subtle hinting, Valve has officially announced a Mac version of popular gaming service Steam coming in April, and its bringing Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series with it.
The Mac version of Steam will include all of the features of its PC counterpart, as well as a new feature called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the game on one platform to download and play it for the other at no additional charge.
    Good times....
But there is also a downside:

Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients.
I have hoped to play against Mac players only so I could have wiped the floor with those poor sobs who never seen an FPS first hand. No I get pwned again from those 133t CS kiddies. I guess I have to stick to coop or singleplayer games again.

Wow, that is good news: not having to pay again. That never, ever happens. As long as OPENGL is implemented right, the Mac versions could run pretty fast, but as per usual, I expect them to run 1/3 to 1/2 slower than their windows counterparts.

I have the complete valve package so I can join every valve game. Personally I prefer L4D or L4D2 though. I'm always up for a round of those.

My Steam handle is NineSwords if somebody wants to add me already. But I have no pc running steam until the mac version arrives.
