Default Yipe 5: Attack of Idle Hands

You know the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover?"

...Neither do most apple customers. I'm pretty sure that they could slap the logo on an (unpolished) turd and people would line up on release day to buy the hot, steaming fecal detritus.

But you, dear reader....you are special.

That is why you should ignore the mediocre itunes rating and listen to me. Trust me, I'm a professional.

Yipe 5 pretends to be a poor man's Final Fantasy. It isn't, and so much the better: what you get instead is a fanciful and lovingly-crafted adventure with all the polish and spirit of a mom-and-pop venture.

The game's main selling point is it's dialogue: It reeks of the wit and humor that we expect from adventure games...games that rely SOLELY on these facets to produce a pleasurable experience.
The combat system is DnD style dice-rolled outcomes, with STRONG modifiers being thrown in dependent on level and equipment.

The enemies are all hand-drawn, and they seem to be perfectly straddling the line between ridiculous and serious...just where you want them to be. You can bet that Dylan Sisson put a lot of love into the artwork.

What the game does well, it does better than anyone out there - you can interrupt play at anytime and find that the game is saved. You can interact with the environment in different ways, healing by sitting on logs or drinking from streams..but you WILL drain the streams or become "bored" of the logs, so enjoy nature in moderation

The sheer depth of the dialogue that has been written into this game will leave you pressing "search" again and again on each patch of ground just to see all the tongue-in-cheek humor the game is rich with.

While the game is outstanding as an RPG/Adventure hybrid, it does have one or two slight caveats attached: Many of the more hardcore-RPG players like to number-crunch (myself included). There are no stats on the items you can purchase...UNTIL you buy them. Generally it's not important (more expensive item = better item)...but it's still a bit of an annoyance for us min-max'ers.

For those gamers out there who value a bit of intellectual frolicking and don't mind a solid RPG while they are at it, Pick up Yipe 5 and don't look back. At $1.99 USD, this game is a hidden gem worth the price of admission.

thanks for sharing this nullroar. Having read your take on Yipe 5: Attack of Idle Hands, I'm quite eager to give this a try. By the sounds of it, this could be another hidden gem among the countless games at the App Store. Hopefully, it'll be a surprise much like Poker and Sword was - fun and addictive.

Ha. Yeah. Gotta love the zombie ninja character. I should have come up with some special skills specifically for that char. Hmm...

New Yipe Lite out for all those curious! Also, it seems there has been a price drop back down to $.99 and DLC is becoming available.
