Default Mobile World Congress: how to kill the iPhone is talk of the town

Hardly flattering to the competition, the Mobile World Congress is abuzz with one thing: the iPhone, at least according to AppleInsider. Whether Samsung or Sony, LG or Nokia, one thing is on the minds of the comp - making Apple's device hit rock bottom.

The way to do it? Make App Stores of their own, add touch screens, gaming features - in short, in order to beat the iPhone, you have to copy it piece by piece, then debut it with your own name and vision.

They forget however, the iPhone is successful for many reasons, but one of the major ones is that it shares a common hardware ancestor and until something massive happens with its chipset, apps designed for the App Store work mostly equally across all iDevices. No manner of tweaking, hacking, and smashing components into carbon fibre shells will allow other vendors to come even close to that.

Apple have always supported the tight integration of software and hardware. No other manufacturer runs such a tight ship - in fact, I think they suck.

No one will ever "kill" the iPhone, IMO. They can only try and make something different that will appeal to those "I want 8mpx camera, flash, multitasking, blablabla" types
Sorry for any spelling mistakes in my posts, I'm using an iPhone to write them

I know the identity of the Real iPhone (& iPad) Killer! And it is not a phone or tablet or netbook.

It suddenly dawned on me (sometime back) that I believe I know what people have always been looking for, the Real iPhone Killer.

The Real iPhone Killer is the lack of creativity (imagination). Thankfully, this killer is kept well at bay by thousands of creatives around the world, keeping the iPhone, and soon the iPad, safe from inconsequence. The iPhone will only die when people stop applying their creativity to it.

I just think that the competitors are too late to catch up on the main force driving the iPhone - the AppStore. And that's the same reason I smile when people say the iPad will fail - the iPad will sell like freaking hot cakes.

The iPad _looks_ like a hotcake; it had better sell! Scoreless - good thoughts. You are probably well right about creativity. No company has a monopoly on it, even if they dish out app suites like the Creative Suite. Apple, like Adobe will hit a wall, but I hope it won't be soon - I am only 30 years old and would like to enjoy that white 'n shiny logo for a few years yet. The iPhone is amazing and its lacks will be made up for not only as the OS evolves, but as the internet, and as Apple's customer evolves past its primordial, dependency upon proprietary tech.

I agree with shigz in that eventually yes the almighty Apple WILL hit a wall. It, like everything else tech based is inevitable. I also partially agree with Oleg but would add that although it does seem like the competition is "too late"...the same arguement was made by windows while apple was still developing it's now glorious fanbase. So given enough time somebody will come up with something

It's not happening. Plus we have more and more iPod touch users because of the app store and the portable gaming.

After I got my iPod touch I don't even touch my nintendo ds lite anymore.

If companies want to end Apple, they need to start building something that Apple hasn't even thought of right now. Some kind of device that can change size based on the need and has teleportation abilities. It should also have wifi everywhere, even underwater.

    Companies, get to it!
