Default Robot Rampage In Review – robots, lasers, destruction – Awesome!

Original Review: Robot Rampage In Review – robots, lasers, destruction – Awesome!

A while back I reviewed Underground, a great side scrolling game by Chillingo which brings back the fun of the side-scrolling genre. I hadn’t really seen anything worth looking at lately until chatter about developer Origin8’s new title Robot Rampage started filling my ears. I have been a fan of their games for quite some time and had high hopes for this one. Read on to see if the app is a worthy rampage, or worthless rubbish.

From the firist, Robot Rampage is a visual masterpiece. Origin8 in my opinion have always excelled when it comes to in game graphics and this title is no different. Lots of balanced, rich colours. Lines are clean and there is just the perfect mix of visual background and active foreground graphics to keep things interesting. The main robot looks great, reminding me of something out of an older movie, or some of the weird toys I used to play with as a child.

Controlling the game is extremely easy. In game you just tap to where you want the robot to walk. To fire lasers, just hold your finger on the screen and drag to where you are trying to hit. You can also punch or stomp by tapping in front or on the ground. The responsiveness of the controls are great and I had no problems at all moving around or hitting all the various buildings, people or anything else that got in my way. You get to run through the how-to in the beginning but if you ever want a refresher on something it’s always available from the main screen.

The main goal of the game is to destroy as many blocks as you possibly can. You do this by simply firing your laser at anything and everything in front of you. Also, to make sure things don’t become too repetitive, you will occasionally have to deal with soldiers, tanks, choppers/bombers and even missiles! There’s a whole lot of action to be had and as soon as you think you have a handle on it, something else comes in to mess with you.

Another great feature of the game is OpenFeint integration. When it comes to games like this, I thrive on being able to show off to friends my freakin’ high scores and wait for them to try to better my mad skills. One feature I didn’t expect but was happily surprised with is iPod integration. For those of you who might tire of the in game music/sound and are running on OS3.0 or up, you can play music from your iPod.app while smashing block after block. Nothing better than having the ability to pick your own city demolishing soundtrack.

Although this is one of my shorter reviews, that is definitely not due to a lack of content. This game is an excellent side scroller that will keep almost any fan of casual “pick up and play” games locked in and addicted to its city smashing fun. I would recommend this game to anyone. It’s a great easy to learn game that is perfect anytime, anywhere.

This is definitely something on my wishlist because it reminds me of rampage from shockwave. Loved it!
