Default iPhone charging dock with audio out only

I'm looking for an iPhone dock that will let me charge my iPhone and listen to the audio on headphones, that's it. Anyone know of any? This way I can put my iPhone on the dock at work and be able to listen to the music on my headphones, which would already be plugged into the dock. I don't want to have to spend the extra money to have speakers, because I can't use them at work. Plus with the dock the iPhone would stand straight up and I could see what music is playing on it. I have a Griffin iPhone/USB hub/card reader dock right now that I really like and if it had an audio jack it would be perfect.

This image is taken from my article on iPod socks: The Apple iPod Sock – Keeps going and going and goin…

hello Christy, the reason there are few if no docks that currently support such use is that many carry full line out functions which means they may not reduce the volume from the line-level - destroying your ears in one fell swoop. Line levels aren't as loud as the loudest of iPhone headphone settings, but they get loud.

That said, my old Apple Universal dock has both s-video and headphone output on the back side, the volume of which can be controlled via the iPhone! I don't know if they still sell them or not, but it is very nice and has next to 0 hiss at all.

Otherwise, you could plug your iphone into a computer and your headphones into the iPhone whilst charging - that works too.

I bought one of these Belkin ones for my 2nd Gen iPod Touch and it works great.

I plug it into a PC (for power), but if you want to use an AC wall outlet, you'd need a USB to AC plug (it doesn't come with one). You'd also need a set of headphones w/ volume controls, otherwise you'd probably blow out your eardrums. On-iDevice volume controls won't work since it uses the audio out from the 30-pin connector.

The only issue I've had is that occasionally after undocking the sound will still be going out the 30-pin connector, so I have to power-cycle my iPod Touch to get the headphone jack to work again. This has only happened once or twice.

I also just got one of these DC/AUX cables for the car:

It sounds GREAT, plus it charges my iPod at the same time.

Thank you. I have purchased the Belkin and I will see how it works out. Thanks for the information about the volume control too.

Some docks will still allow volume to be controlled via the device - that is because they contain extra circuitry and in some senses, are not real line outs. All docks I have seen bypass the headphone jack in some way or another.
