I saw this simple trick on MacStories to keep autocorrect from accidentally choosing the wrong words for you.
Type any character and then position the cursor just to the left of it. Now you can type away and autocorrect will never turn on. Just delete this dummy character when you're finished.
Autocorrect works fine for me for the most time. From time to time it's messing up single words, but nothing that a gentle shake of the device didn't correct. (that's another tip right there: Shaking the device when typing or using copy and paste does a undo)
Why not just turn off auto-correct in settings?
Haha. I have like 5 keyboards to deal with as frequently, Korean friends want to use the device. I can read, but don't understand how to input via Korean. Is there an auto correct feature? probably, but I wouldn't know enough. Japanese, English and Swedish work reasonably well; actually, Japanese is probably the best as it has an extensive predictive engine. Not sure I would ever turn OFF the feature as it saves time quite often.
I found that if you use a certain words that does not exist in the dictionary frequently, it would would eventually be stored in the iDevice. For example I use ROFLMAO a lot on Twitter and now after typing ROF it would auto correct to ROFLMAO.

I recall reading somewhere the way to get your common words recognized is by entering them in Safari. Other programs don't necessarily add to the auto correct. Maybe someone else can confirm (or refute) this...Quote:
