Free music is available only if the artist/publisher releases it. Otherwise, it has to be part of the creative commons license.

Jamendo (http://www.jamendo.com/en/) is sort of an example of this, but you won't find most labels, most bands from the big world out there. TMA will NOT discuss illegal music/video/game downloads.

No, you won't be able to download Michael Jackson for free. His music is 100% copyrighted. A song is only 1.29$ or so at the iTunes store, or even less on a CD (if I understand American CD prices). This conversation will go no further about downloading copyrighted music.

Cheers.

Alice,

you're talking about downloading pirated music and here at TMA we do not condone piracy. In fact - it is specifically against the Rules of the forum.

Just take a minute of your time and think about it. Can it really be possible to download copyrighted music legally without breaking any laws?

There are a few bands that break the pattern and release their music for free (Nine Inch Nails for example) but especially in the music segment you mentioned you won't find any of those. If there is a big production company behind it, bet your money that it isn't free.

Also individual songs come only at one dollar in iTunes and there are other sites that sell them legally for even less. Amazon comes to mind.

Lastly there are a ton of Internet radio stations where you can legally stream music. Pandora and last.fm is a great start. Also you can search for your songs on YouTube. That's a legal gray area but I'm sure your not breaking any law by watching any video on YouTube.

Why not close this thread and give Alice time to think about it.
