I won't be buying an iPod touch 3G - too expensive in Korea and with new hardware due out in September/October, I'll probably shoot for the lowest end of the new ones unless, like this generation, the lowest one is just a re-badged previous gen.

Well, we have some options: Jailbreak to obtain our multitasking, OR, an option which has no adverse effect on battery: carry another iPod touch. 2G's are cheap now and they are slim and in one hand, I can read a book and the other, carry on a chat session. What do you think?

Honestly, what do you think now that we know iPhone OS 4.0 won't support multitasking for older touch 2G and 3G users. (http://www.touchmyapps.com/2010/04/08/iphone-4-0-to-bring-multitasking/)

Ok, frankly? With the extremely limited amount of RAM of those devices I can't really see how multitasking would work and I feel it's perfectly fair it's restricted for the last gen (for now) devices.

So, will you buy another iPhone to cope with all the things you just have to do?

Frankly, I never find myself really needing that. The maximum I do is talk on the phone and browse smth and that's it!

Come on, latest backgrounder+proswitcher works flawless. IMHO, proswitcher is better GUI-wise than OS4.0 multitasking.

True, but keeping up with jailbreak is ... hard work for casual iPhoners... sorry Jim and Oleg.

I don't see how can I give up JB without quitting developing apps. They are just interwoven.

Yea, I'll probably wait for the jailbreak for 4.0, and then get backgrounder and kirikae. I remember to close apps, so battery drain won't be a problem. And I won't have a problem with keeping up with jailbreaks. If worst comes to worst, I'll stay on 3.1.2.

Well, I'm out in the cold now, meaning I won't probably see another update for the first gen. ipod touch. Can't wait to see what the fall has to offer in ipod touch hardware.

You'll get multitasking unlocked with jailbreak - and you'll get NATIVE multitasking, same as for 3gs. AFAIK, MuscleNerd has unlocked that possibility for older devices.
