Try to "Write a Review" for the iTunes application. If it allows you to write a review, you have purchased it before.

If it does not allow you to write a review, it means you have not purchased the app yet.

This helps to "remind" that you have downloaded the iTunes app or game before.

Hope it is useful for people out there.:D

Thanks! Never thought of that actually, but this is definitely going to be useful for me.

Thanks. This is a very good tip. I have two accounts (US and german) and sometimes I forget which app I got with wich account.

I'll have to give that a try. I've downloaded the same app more than once a couple of times only to delete it again. Would be nice if there was some record list you could look at to see what you have downloaded/purchased in the past.

I just save all of my iTunes emails (under a sep label in gmail) and then I search those.
I wish there were some indicator on the AppStore that showed you that you already purchased it. like they do on your device where it says "INSTALLED" if you already have it installed, the BUY icon should read "PURCHASED". Its a little unnerving everytime I re-download an app I have this fear I'm gonna get charged again.

There is a record of all your purchased apps right in iTunes (and on your account in the AppStore App on the device, but this is sorted by date, and then you have to expand those to see what titles were purchased on that date and is not searchable. Apparently there is some program out there for the mac that allows you to build a list from this data.

There is also a program you can download from Yappler.com (http://www.yappler.com/) that will let you do this on a PC and then it creates a little java app that looks like an iPhone with the icons for all your apps.

Problem is that it can only go by what you have sitting in your app folder. If you've deleted any and didn't click the option to leave the file and just remove it from itunes, you won't be able to count those. I think this is def. something that should be taken care of on Apples end. Much like the way Cydia works where even if you have completely restored your phone it will still recognize the device as having purchased one of the paid apps and the link to install says install and not buy.

Thank you. this is a great tip. I share apps between 3 iPhones at home and it sometimes is a little scary re-downloading an app to a different device or computer when many of the app names are so similar.

Good tip. Hadn't thought of using it that way. It beats going through your purchase history, which is a pain if you've downloaded tons of free apps.
