Even if you are like me and don't care much for JapanimeRPG's this should be big news. FF is the biggest RPG for the non-Japanese and should sell like flu vaccinations once it hits the App Store. Both Final Fantasy 1 and 2 will be coming to our beloved device in nice hi-resolution mapped versions which will likely have fans of the original shouting 'blemish!'. I'd follow Square/Enix Twitter (https://twitter.com/SquareEnixDLG) for the latest English Information.

I don't know if I'm going to get the remade FF games since I had them all on the DS up to FF IV. Seeing that they ported the remade DS versions now to the iDevice I expect to see the DragonQuest remakes soon (which are btw. way better than FF).

Now while the remakes are nice but still have the old and tired retro gameplay, I really hope that we see the new Dragon Quest 9 not too far in the future. That would really rock and I would be easily paying the full price for it that I would have to pay on the DS.

I think we won't see new JapanimeRPGs on the iPhone from big devs. And you are right, DragonQuest is better, though it never got popular in the same way as FF outside of Japan. Inside the country however, FF is more of the 'huh?' game.

Still, I hold out for real RPG's which have 'real' role playing elements like an Ultima. I am sick of 'RPG' games which just follow a formula and a story - there is nothing of characterisation, nothing of role inherent in any Japan-esque RPG.

I have still hopes for the illusive Bethesda iPhone game (http://twitter.com/ncroal/status/1184483463). What will it be if it's not being canned? Maybe a Arena/Daggerfall remake? Or a version of the more recent games like Oblivion or Fallout? Or something completely new?

Arena was such a revolution in terms of sandbox RPGing when it came out and Daggerfall even better. Morrowind may be my favourite of the bunch, but Oblivion looked best. But when things get too much focused on graphics, ... dear god. Oblivion didn't hold a candle to Morrowind for in-depth game play. That is IMO of course!

I guess I'm on the fence when it comes to the question which game is the best in the series. I am with you that Oblivion was the weakest link so far (as well as Fallout3). Arena was tainted by childhood problems and frankly the game stopping bugs have developed into a running gag. Get a new staff fragment and then wait for the patch in order to be able to play further. It was the most bug ridden game I have ever played.

Morrowind or Daggerfall. Let's start with a little fact about me. I'm a sucker for game and movie soundtracks. And when I started my first steps into Vvardenfell and the Main theme sets in, I had goosebumps. And when I was engulfed in a ashstorm for the first time I was the happiest cookie that I had a decent 5.1 setup. The Audio in this game was incredible. Outstanding. A masterpiece. But while the presentation of Morrowind blew me away, I wasn't sold on the narrative. I think Daggerfall took a better approach and had a more complex and adult story and way of telling it. But I hated the randomly generated dungeons and sidequests. So a mix of both would be great.

Or even better, just Ultima 7. But not a port but a complete remake with touch controls in mind.

I'm a sucker for nostalgic apps like this, I spent so many hours playing Final Fantasy I'll have no choice but to buy this and waste a few more on my iPhone lol.

Never having had the opportunity to play these games, I'm really looking forward to this release. I've never played a Final Fantasy game all the way through, but I've always enjoyed the time I have spent with them, and I imagine the same will apply here.

Has anyone tried out Song Summoner? At 9,99€ it's to expensive for me to get it again (I have it for the nano) and it's like a striped down version of Final Fantasy Tactics.
