iDracula: Undead Awakening in Review – It Comes to Suck Your Blood

idraucla_review1I will say this now. Stop reading this review and pick up the game now at the current $0.99 price before it increases. For goodness sakes, go!

For those who are unconvinced, I will hope to explain why I believe iDracula is currently one of the better games the App Store has to offer and why this should be on your “get quick” list.

Orions: Legends of Wizards in Review – A card game of legendary proportions

orions1I’ll be honest.  I’ve never played card games on computers or consoles.  Sure, I’ve played hearts on my PC, but that’s about it.  I used to play Hearts, Euchre and Crazy Eights when I was younger, but I really haven’t played any card games since then.

After playing Orions: Legends of Wizards, I’m left wondering why I haven’t played card games in such a long time!  I’ve spent a few sleepless nights and days at work dreaming about what my next move and/or strategy should be for my next battle.  That my friends, is when you know you’re playing a great game.

Krypton Egg in Review – The Ultimate Breakout?

kryptonegg4First developed for the Atari in 1990, Krypton Egg has survived obscurity for almost 20 years  by being arguably one of the best breakout clones out there. If looks alone could kill, the game could very well have been rejected by the App Store. Thankfully, Krypton Egg more than makes up for its cosmetic deficiencies with solid and engaging gameplay and a whack load of crazy fun power ups.

Vector Tanks in Review – Old School Has A New Face

vectortanks1There was an old NBA Jam machine in my local deli. Word got around that if you pressed a certain combination of buttons and joystick directions, you would be able to access a small game called Battlezone. As the forefather of Vector Tanks, there is much that is taken from the game: The wireframe graphics, the feel of the controls, the smell of cheesesteaks on the grill (ok, maybe not that one). Yet, Vector Takes take the original formula and kicks it like its 2009… which it is.

Geometrix in Review: Flat but compelling?

img_0037

Glyphic Entertainment, LLC have added a unique arcade puzzler to the App Store with Geometrix:  Flatland Unbound.  Fast and furious, it is a great addition to the catalogue of games that Chillingo have brought to the App Store.  For fans of Edwin A. Abbott’s novel, this game gains instant wuffie but fails when compared to the seminal literature.

Reign of Swords in Review – Forsooth Tis Fun

reignofswords1There’s something all pervasive about the Medieval Times that influences RPG and strategy games. You can have a game set in the year 3054 and still find armor clad heroes and heroines with swords. Even mystical lands filled with dwarves, orcs, and elves find themselves subject to the restraints of this swords and sorcery treatment. Not deviating from this formula, Punch Entertainment’s Reign of Swords fits squarely with its brethren. Yet, for an App Store that is still seeking to fill out its genre coffers, this game is a welcome addition.

WeDict Pro in Review – No More Freebies

wedictpro1There was once a time when WeDict was a half-decent free dictionary. It sufficed for the basic needs of many people who deemed literacy a high priority in their lives. Between that time and now, the freebie faded away and WeDict Pro, the full paid version, remained. While more robust in functions and features than its free predecessor, does WeDict Pro have enough to justify its (as many would consider) hefty price?

App Update: Abby Crabby

abbycrabby81

Don't eva mess with a crab carrying a dynamite and broken bottle!

Steamboat Mountain Designs has recently released a v1.1 update to Abby Crabby, a visually appealing game I had previously reviewed here at TouchMyApps. While I did enjoy the game with its cute graphics and fun gameplay, I found that the tilt controls were not very responsive and the lack of difficulty settings didn’t help the matter. After hearing some of these concerns, Jeff Mathews tweaked Abby Crabby for a much more enjoyable crabby experience.

Burning Tires 3D in Review – Yet Another Racer

burningtires1There is little doubt that the iDevice makes a great platform for racers. One can see that by the 5 pages of racing games in the AppStore. With so many to choose from, and with little variety between them, a game has to justify its existence in order to thrive. This is where Burning Tires 3D faces a dilemma. Is it good or innovative enough to warrant a purchase? Unfortunately, unlike Fishlab’s other racing game, Powerboat Challenge 3D, there is little reasons that legitimize this game.
