[Updated] Freebies Roundup: Palm Heroes, Jet Ball and more Free for a limited time
If you’re looking for some of the most notable apps/games that have recently gone from paid–>free, look no further than our latest Freebies Roundup. Today we see Palm Heroes, one of the deepest and most satisfying turn based strategy titles on the App Store, go free. ChiffaN previously reviewed the game and had this to say:
To sum it all up, the game is awesome. It is the famous Heroes of Might & Magic in the palm of your hand (hence the name). While for the occasional gamer, it may be a bit difficult to master, anyone who invests the time to understand its mechanics will be rewarded by literally hundreds of hours of gameplay… as you immerse in the Heroes experience you will realise that at $1.99, Palm Heroes is the best quality to price ratio I’ve ever seen (up there with the great AK-47).
For those who enjoy bouncing balls off bricks, Jet Ball (TMA Review), an Arkanoid clone with plenty of tricks up its sleeve, is also part of the freebie fiesta. Lots more goodies can be found within, but do hurry as some deals are only good for a very limited time!
Nubi Do (ToDo List / Task Manager) now FREE for limited time
One of the great things about the iDevice is that you can count on plenty of Todo type apps to help you get organized and (hopefully) be more productive. One such app happens to be Gennubi’s Nubi Do and it’s now FREE for a limited time. While it wasn’t built from the ground up using David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology in mind (unlike Nozbe and OmniFocus), Nubi sports a clean and uncluttered interface and has plenty of useful features – some of which include:
- Import/Export to Google™ Docs Spreadsheet.
- Sort and filter tasks instantly at a touch of a finger (or manually sort tasks)
- Assign priorities and due dates.
- Create and assign tags and contexts.
- Lock & passcode protect individual todo lists.
- Full screen note viewer with data detection (linkable email/web addresses etc)
One feature missing is Push Notification for set reminders, but if it’s not a deal breaker for you, Nubi Do is a great choice for what it does. Its import/export function, full screen note viewer and ability to password protect projects/lists (among other things) makes it one of the better todo apps I’ve come across on the App Store. With it’s current price tag of $0 (previously $9.99), productivity hounds and those who need a task manager shouldn’t miss out on this sweet offer.

Freebies Roundup: Bumble Tales, Fastar! and more FREE for limited time
It’s Friday, so you know it’s time for our Freebies Roundup. Lots of titles have gone from paid–>free once again, so there should be something for everyone. Bumble Tales, one of the more enjoyable match 3 games on the App Store, is now free and fans of the genre should find plenty of reasons to like this one. This multi-platform hit title (PC, Mac and now iDevice) was previously reviewed on TMA and it received a solid Grab It rating for its charm and upgradable characters and building powers (among other things). Also free is Cat in a Box Games’ Fastar!, an “Action RPG” with a concept that allows for great pick-up-and-play gameplay. And once you give it a chance, you’ll be surprised at how a simple design can be this much fun.
Lots more recent freebies can be found after the break. Remember, these deals are only valid for a limited time… so hurry!
Freebies Roundup: Dark Shrine 3D, Toodledo – Todo List and more Free for limited time
One of the best things about the App Store (aside from the multitude of apps ‘n games) is the amount of great paid–>free content you can find on a daily basis, and this edition of our Freebies Roundup is no exception. Dark Shrine, a solid and fun isometric 3D Action/RPG, is now free and should please those who enjoy the genre. Here’s what Chiffan had to say in his review:
Dark Shrine is a cutesy action/RPG with great characters, fun dialogues, original controls and fun and addictive gameplay. It really shows the way how Action/RPG games can take a step away from the traditional D-Pad/Button controls and provide an extra level of player interaction.
Aside from the usual games we normally see in the roundup, Toodledo, a powerful and robust task/note management app is also now free for a limited time. For those of you implementing the GTD methodology, it’s likely that you’ve already come across, or are evening using the Toodledo service. Personally, it’s not my favorite out there (I’m currently using Nozbe), but as a standalone todo/list type app to help keep track of your work/personal life, you can’t go wrong for the price.
Lots more App Store titles that are free at the moment can be found after the break. Remember, these deals are only valid for a limited time… so hurry!

To celebrate the release of 1337 Game Design’s highly anticipated sequel Dark Nebula – Episode Two, Episode One can now be experienced on your iDevice for free. For those not familiar, Dark Nebula is essentially Labyrinth on steroids. You must tilt and guide your ball through well designed levels and avoid both enemies and obstacles. The games are simply a blast to play and Ep. 2 is currently one of my favorites on my iPhone. Also free is Pocket Devil – Hell Yeah!, a game where you’re in charge of hell and it’s up to just how you want to treat terrorize your lil’ Mugat2s. If you’re a fan of Pocket God, you’ll want to check this one out as well.

NAVIGON MobileNavigator apps all 50% off
NAVIGON’s MobileNavigator, arguably one of the best GPS apps available for the iPhone, is now celebrating it’s 1 year App Store anniversary (as well as 1 million users) by holding a 50% fire sale. We reviewed MobileNavigator North America a while back and found it a great choice for its many features, POIs, Live traffic updates (in-app purchase) and general ease-of-use. The sale includes all their apps that range from an entire region to specific cities. Here are some with maps that cover a more expansive zone:
NAVIGON MobileNavigator North America, 1.52 GB – $39.99
NAVIGON MobileNavigator USA, 1.39 GB – $24.99
NAVIGON MobileNavigator Europe, 1.83 GB – $59.99
NAVIGON MobileNavigator Middle East, 158 MB – $59.99
NAVIGON MobileNavigator Southern Africa, 165 MB – $39.99
Compared to the more traditional GPS devices that start at $100, snagging a NAVIGON app for a fraction of the price is a tremendous deal. If you want to browse all the apps on sale, take a look on iTunes here. Don’t procrastinate though if you want one; according to their Website, the 50% off is only good until August 15th.

Update: Civilization Revolution is now FREE!!! Previously at $6.99, this is one heck of a steal.
The weekend is upon us once again and it’s time for another Freebies Roundup. Leading the way is Glu’s hit title Jump O’Clock (TMA Review), a vertical platform game where you take control of a steampunk robot named le0 and attempt to jump from gear to gear and as far up as you can, all the while avoiding various obstacles. Not only did TMA’s Eric Pankoke give the game a Kiss it rating, he also found it more enjoyable than Doodle Jump. Also making the freebie list is Steam Pirates, a uniquely designed and casual RPG/Adventure from Luc Bernard, creator of the popular TBS Mecho Wars (TMA Review).
Lots more freebies can be found after the break. Remember, these deals are only valid for a limited time… so hurry!
