Comparing 2 Camping Apps – No Clear Victor

As someone that goes camping regularly, this was a fun, not to mention useful, assignment for me. Armed with two camping Apps, I set forth into the UK countryside.

The two apps in question are Sites UK and Campsites & Caravan Parks. The former is slightly more expensiveo. I’ve tested both Apps as thoroughly as possible and below are my findings.

iPhone app donates proceeds to Haiti relief

The devastation and dire situation in Haiti due to the recent earthquakes have opened the hearts (and wallets) of people from all over the world. Donations have been pouring into aid agencies in hopes of saving lives and help rebuild one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. Today, Weiner Family Studios have announced that all proceeds from sales this week of their iPhone app A Family Matters, will be donated to AmeriCares.

Family Matters is an iPhone/iPod touch application that allows families to enjoy deeper more meaningful conversations. Mr. Weiner says, “My family created Family Matters to help parents and children communicate more effectively. Unlike most applications targeted at children, this isn’t designed to “keep the kids busy. It is designed to help the family learn from and enjoy each other.”

The app is intended to help foster better communication between parents and children, so needless to say, it won’t appeal to you if you don’t have your own family just yet. However, if you do and would like to check out this family app that was recently featured in the App Store’s What’s Hot section, now would be a great time as your $1.99 will go into helping a good cause. The full press release and video after the gap.

FlightTrack Pro in Review – Never miss a flight again!

flight-track-pro-review-main

I don’t know about you, but I travel quite a lot, and tracking my flights is a pain. I need to enter takeoff time, flight number and all of that other stuff into the calendar manually just to be sure I never miss my plane. And to top it all off, I have to somehow remember to check the weather and if, god forbid, there is a delay, then I usually end up stuck in the airport for hours. Well, Mobiata has come up with an answer for me and all of you frequent fliers out there!

FlightTrack goes ‘Pro’, $9.99

flighttrackpro1FlightTrack has been one of my favorite travel apps on the iPhone and one I rely on most as I make my way through airports. It provides loads of useful  info for travelers and the interface makes for easy navigation. Now FlightTrack Pro includes all the great features from the original FlightTrack and integrates support for TripIt, a popular online travel organizer. For those not familiar with TripIt,  it basically organizes trip details (could be airline tickets, hotels, rental cars and even restaurants)  into one master online itinerary. See here for a complete list of booking sites that is supported by TripIt.

So how does this all work with FlightTrack Pro? Simply forward your airline confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com, and TripIt flight itineraries will sync automatically with FlightTrack Pro. For frequent flyers, this can be an indispensible tool as your entire travel plan is always right at your finger tip, without the need for entering airline codes and flights numbers over and over. While I personally haven’t tested out the “Pro” version just yet, the early reviews at the App Store has been very positive. Those who fly more than they care to should definitely have a look at FlightTrack Pro [$9.99].
