If you find picking up people from the airport a chore (check flight times, calculate when you should leave home etc.), let Just Landed for iPhone help. It’s currently free, well designed and actually works. Unlike a host of other flight tracking apps available for iOS (i.e Flight Track), Just Landed simply tracks inbound flights. Enter the airline code and flight number, and the app will show the landing time, terminal number and approximate driving time based on traffic conditions. And so long as location services is turned on, it’ll even notify you in the background when the the flight has landed and when you should leave for the airport.

If you’ve ever searched the App Store for travel related apps, it’s likely you’ve come across FlightTrack and FlightTrack Pro, two of the consistently top selling iOS apps in the travel category. The pro version ($9.99) is jam packed with features like push notification for flight updates, weather forecast for both arrival and departure airports, and Terminal maps, but the casual (and budget minded) traveller may not require all the premium extras. For those looking for a no frills and free version that provides some basic flight look up functionality, Mobiata has released just that - FlightTrack Free.

Tripwolf, makers of the award winning travel apps for the iPhone, have dropped over 20 of their city guides to free over the past several days (previously $5.99 for each). The more notable cities include Barcelona, London, New York City and Paris. All tripwolf travel guides feature offline maps, travel tips from other travellers, an augmented reality mode, the ability to sort and filter attractions by distance, price, type etc, and an all new trip planner mode that helps you plan and organize upcoming trips via a drag and drop interface. Users even have the option of choosing whether to separately download offline maps, text and images for added flexibility. It’s not known how long these travel apps will stay free, so best grab them from the App Store ASAP, especially for those of you planning to visit London (and other cities in Europe) during the 2012 Olympics. All their iOS guides (available for over 100 cities) feature offline maps, a “You are here” functionality to show your current location on the map, an Augmented Reality mode to see what’s around you, travel guide content from multiple publishers and more. One other notable feature not commonly found in other travel apps is the ability to separately download offline maps, text and images to give you more flexibility. Oink, brought to you by Kevin Rose (the man behind Digg.com), has landed for iOS. Unlike other social recommendation tools, Oink lets you rate and rank things around you. So instead of simply recommending a local burger joint to your friends, you can snap a photo of that mouth-watering hamburguesa and giving it a rating. The more items you share and rate, the more “cred” you build. This way others with similar tastes/interests will know who to trust.

What you can do with Oink:
• Rate items around you and share with your followers
• See all the cool stuff your friends and other users are Oinking
• Find the best things in town (e.g. Best “Pizza” in Denver)
• Find the items at a place (e.g., Best roller coasters at Six Flags)
• Build “cred” in your areas of interest
• Share your Oink activity on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare

Apple seems to be on a roll of late with App Store app lists. First came The Best Games You’ve Never Played, a roundup of hidden gems that haven’t quite burned up the app charts. Now they’ve released the Awesome iOS 4 Apps list, a collection of apps and games that have been updated to take advantage of iOS 4′s new features, like support for the Retina Display and Multitasking/Fast App Switching. Here are some notable that have made the list:

As someone that goes camping regularly, this was a fun, not to mention useful, assignment for me. Armed with two camping Apps, I set forth into the UK countryside.

The two apps in question are Sites UK and Campsites & Caravan Parks. The former is slightly more expensiveo. I’ve tested both Apps as thoroughly as possible and below are my findings.

The devastation and dire situation in Haiti due to the recent earthquakes have opened the hearts (and wallets) of people from all over the world. Donations have been pouring into aid agencies in hopes of saving lives and help rebuild one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. Today, Weiner Family Studios have announced that all proceeds from sales this week of their iPhone app A Family Matters, will be donated to AmeriCares.

Family Matters is an iPhone/iPod touch application that allows families to enjoy deeper more meaningful conversations. Mr. Weiner says, “My family created Family Matters to help parents and children communicate more effectively. Unlike most applications targeted at children, this isn’t designed to “keep the kids busy. It is designed to help the family learn from and enjoy each other.”

The app is intended to help foster better communication between parents and children, so needless to say, it won’t appeal to you if you don’t have your own family just yet. However, if you do and would like to check out this family app that was recently featured in the App Store’s What’s Hot section, now would be a great time as your $1.99 will go into helping a good cause. I don’t know about you, but I travel quite a lot, and tracking my flights is a pain. I need to enter takeoff time, flight number and all of that other stuff into the calendar manually just to be sure I never miss my plane. And to top it all off, I have to somehow remember to check the weather and if, god forbid, there is a delay, then I usually end up stuck in the airport for hours. Well, Mobiata has come up with an answer for me and all of you frequent fliers out there!
